Salem had many opportunities to score, but couldn't convert in the first half. The half time score was 1-0 for North Sanpete. The Lady Skyhawks came storming back, outshooting North Sanpete 30-8. Storie Brockbank, right, earned the first hat trick of Salem Hills' history, scoring all of Salem's goals for the 3-1 victory. Lindsay Stevens assisted her twice, and Brianna Wilding assisted once. The winning goalkeeper was Sam Bigler. The Lady Skyhawks dominated both defensively and offensively. Sarah Clark played a great sweeper position. Salem Hills stands 1-1 in region play and 4-5 overall. The JV followed varsity action with a 1-0 win of their own, outshooting North Sanpete 21-10. Hailey Ingram scored the lone goal. The JV defense of Taylor Adams, Alicia Money, Jessica Bascom, Rachel Simons, and goalkeeper Kaylyn Sly earned their sixth shutout of the season. The JV record stands at 2-0 in region play and 6-3 overall. The Lady Dons held steady most of the game with AF. The Cavemen held a 2-0 lead at halftime. The Dons went on the attack, led by Jenn Youd and Courtney Acosta, but were unable to score. American Fork found the net with three goals at the end of the second half, to win 7-0. Ashley Shelley and Jessie Anderson were standouts on defense for the Dons. Above, Courtney Acosta collides with a defender while going for a goal against AF. 0 PIONEERS: The Lady Dons soccer team took on one of the top squads in the state in the Lehi Pioneers, Thursday, Sept. 18. The Dons brought varsity keeper Shea Johnson out onto the field, where she played center midfield and forward, while Lyndsey Healey took her place in goal. As expected, Lehi controlled most of the game with great passing and ball handling. The Lady Dons kept Lehi to three goals each half, despite an almost constant attack on the part of the Pioneers. The final score was 6-0, Lehi. Healey, above, held her own in the goal, with a number of great stops. Dons vs. Hunter: From SFHS • B l yards, the Dons thought they had moved the chains enough for a first down, but Lewis' pass to Jordan Mattinson at the Hunter 15 was ruled out of bounds. Spanish Fork then chose to go for it on fourth down but Lewis1 pass to Chase Loftin fell incomplete. Hunter once again went to work. After two short passes moved the ball to midfield, Hunter QB Brett Lunceford once again went to the air, hitting wideout Rico Montoya for a 52-yard strike making the score 2 1 0 Hunter. After a great run by Trevor Randolph, the Dons once again found themselves in a hole as that run was negated by a holding call. Now facing first and 24, the Dons went to the air. Breck Lewis' first pass of this series was intercepted, giving Hunter short field posession again at the Dons' 34-yard- line. For the first time in the first half, Hunter's offense stalled, and they attempted a 47-yard field goal. Spanish Fork finally had something to celebrate as Uili Makai blocked that attempt giving, Spanish Forkthe ball at their own 34-yaid-line. After a 28-yard completion to Chase Loftin and a 19-yard Breck Lewis keeper the Dons once again found themselves in Hunter territory. Breck Lewis' pass to Chase Loftin fell incomplete, giving the Wolves posession at the Hunter 23yard-line. After several exchanges where neither team was able to score, the half ended with Hunter leading 21-0. Starting the second, half the Dons found themselves in great field posession, but couldn't move the ball. Hunter then went to work, with tailback Robert Atiga rinding paydirt once again on a 44-yard run, bringing the score to 28-0. On the ensuing kickoff, Trevor Randolph found a ton of green, bringing the ball to midfield. After several strong runs by Randolph and a short pass to Richard Wilson, the Dons found themselves at the Hunter seven-yard-line. A short screen pass to Randolph put the ball at the two, where Breck Lewis found Jordunn Mattinson in the end zone for the Dons' first score. Hunter's next offensive posession went three-andout giving, the Dons another chance to close the gap. A Trevor Randolph return and a late hit gave Spanish posession at midfield, where Lewis and company took over again. After seveal near-miss oppurtunities, Spanish Fork got a nice break when Hunter was called for a pass intereference penalty, giving the Don's the ball at the Hunter 11-yard-line. After losing 10 yard to a sack, Breck Lewis found Richard Wilson in the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown reception, bringing the score to 28-13 with 7:34 remaining in the game. After forcing the Wolves to punt, Spanish Fork looked to put another score on the board. A Lewis pass intended for Chase Loftin was intercepted and returned for six. Spanish Fork made another attempt to score before the game ended, however another Lewis pass was picked off and returned to the Spanish Fork eight-yard-line. Hunter tailback Robert Atiga scored on the next play bring the final score, Hunter 41 Spanish Fork 13. A couple of positive notes for the Dons were the running of Trevor Randolph — 10 carries for 100 yards — and sophomore PJ. Inoke, who carried the ball seven times for 48 yards. The Dons begin region play Friday, Sept. 26 with an away game at American Fork High School. TOP HAWK: Cosette Stone comes in first in the girls race. |
