That all changed when the Manti Templars, ranked #2 in 2A high school football, came to visit. They beat the Eagles 56-0, putting a damper on ALA's homecoming celebration and making ALA 0-5 this season and 0-1 in region play. The first Manti score came on a run by Chase Stevens, to end an 87-yard drive. The Eagles didn't get good field position on the kick return, and punted after failing to get a single first down. Manti broke into the end zone again on their next drive, and they led 14-0. The Templars scored seven more a short while later, after an interception and a 36-yard touchdown pass. They held a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. SOFT TOUCH: Nicole Schofield puts the ball over the net. net with 12 kills and four blocks. I am so proud of the SF girls for the hustle, After another ALA punt, Manti scored yet another touchdown, with help from 58 rushing yards by Quarterback Griffin Aste on two third-down plays. The line-drive extra point attempt barely got off the ground, and Manti led 34-0. Another Templar touchdown gave Manti a 41-0 advantage at the half. The Eagles came on stronger after the half, making it into Manti territory for the first time in the game. But they couldn't convert on a fourth-and-five, and Manti took over on downs. A couple of long runs and lots of broken tackles later, and the Templars crossed the goal line once more for a 48-0 lead. The next ALA drive was stuffed by the Templars, who forced the Eagles to punt after dropping ALA's Hunter Morely for a loss on third-and-seven. Manti started from the ALA 41 after the punt, and four plays later they led 54-0. A Templars safety gave Manti a 56-0 lead and an opportunity to score again, but this time the Templars weren' t so fortunate. Despite starting from the ALA 21 after a long return by Devan Fowles, Manti couldn't break through the Eagles' defensive wall. A 27-yard field goal attempt air-balled, and for the first time in the game, the Eagles held the Templars scoreless on a drive. : * Taking over on offense, ALA drove persistently downfield. They were powered by running back Kyle Telaroli, who barreled up the middle for three big runs, dragging defenders along the way.
