Breakfast, IUHC|JL and dinner — all are part of our Christmas traditions. While some menu items are recognized across the board as typical holiday fare, each family develops, ,thejr own Christmas cuisine. The recipes on these pages come from staff, family^anjd friends, and run the gamut from conventional to quirky. from Lindsay B, Wolsey Growing up, my mom would go to dinner on New Year's Eve at her friend Lavada's house. Each year they would have Swiss cheese fondue. When my parents, Shirl and Carol Brimhall, were just beginning to date, on New Year's Eve they went to a square dance at BYU. After dancing the night away, they went to a party at Lavada's house, where they had the traditional fondue meal. Driving home, my dad kissed my mom for the first time. We have had cheese fondue for our New Year's Day dinner ever since. In addition to the cheese fondue, we always have shrimp cocktail, and to drink, Cold Duck. Last year when my brother got his own fondue set for Christmas, we added, CHICKEN ROLLED WASHINGTON from Christy Hardman When I was about ten years old, my mom decided to put on a really nice dinner for just our own family. She said she felt like she was doing all these parties for extended family members or ward members, and usually we kids weren't even invited. She wanted to do something special just for us. It became one of our favorite Christmas traditions that we are still carrying on to this day. We call it the Candle Light Dinner. This recipe was one of our favorite Candle Light Dinner traditions. Chicken Rolled Washington •1/2 cup sliced mushroom 2 Tbsp. butter L 2 Tbsp. flour 1/2 half and half 1/4 tsp. salt 1 1/4 cup shredded sharp cheddarcheese 6-7 boneless chicken breasts pounded flat \" a little flour, eggs for dipping, and, bread crumbs Cheese Fondue 1 clove garlic 2 cups dry white wine 1 Ib. Swiss cheese, shredded 2 tablespoons flour 3 tablespoons Kirsch (optional) salt and pepper (omit salt if using cooking wine) French bread, cut in one-inch cubes Rub garlic on bottom arid sides of heavy sauce pan. Boil wine to remove alcohol. Coat cheese with flour. Melt cheese in wine, a half cup at a time. Add Kirsch and salt and pepper. Pour into fondue, pot, and keep on low. j L STICKY POPCORN Saute mushrooms in butter, add flour, stir in half and half. Cook over low heat until very thick. Stir in cheese. Pour into pie pan and chill at least one hour. Cut into 6-7 portions. Wrap flattened chicken around cheese section. Seal, then/ dust with'flour, dip in egg, roll in \ bread crumbs, and fry until golden, then bake for 30-45 minutes at 325. If s a favorite at my house while watching movies, especially at Christmas time when we are trying to watch every Christmas movie ever made! Sticky Popcorn 1 stick of butter 3/4 cup sugar , , .. 1/2 cup corn syrup 1 tsp. vanilla Boil butter, sugar and syrup, for two minutes. Remove from heat. Add vanilla.
