Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 10 Volume VIII Issue XII October 1, 2003 Girls Soccer Team Scores Another Win We did it again! The Valley U10 girls allstar soccer team won the Hooper “Tomato Wars” tournament over Labor Day weekend. The team made it to the final game by defeating two region 343 (Silverwolves) team by scores of 8 – 2, and 11 – 0, and losing a tight game to the other Silverwolf team by the score of 3 – 2. In a rematch with this team in the championship game the Valley “Nightmares” came out on top with a score of 1 – 0. During the first half of the game the “Nightmares” had the Silverwolf team on its heels with offensive pressure from forwards Jaycie Summers, Quinncie Johnson, Aubree Jones, and Emily Brandt. Midway through the first quarter Jaycie Summers capitalized WALK-A-THON cont. from page 1 on a pass from Quinncie Johnson, and slid the ball past the Silverwolf goalie into the net for the go ahead goal. Tremendous midfield play from Katelyn Harrop and Marne Pack and countless defensive stops by Amber Brady and Chantil Martin kept the Silverwolves scrambling. Brynn Harrop was busy in the goal with flawless goalkeeping, handling everything the came her way. The win completes a fun, successful season for the “Nightmares.” Coaches Julie Brandt and Brett Harrop couldn’t be happier with the progress, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed by the girls throughout the season. Hwy. 39 Huntsville Fall Family Festival and Walk-a-thon By Lauren Endicott, Sixth grade student On September 12, 2003, Valley Elementary had a Walk-a-Thon and Fall Family Festival. This was how we raised money for the school, instead of selling candy and wallpaper. The Walk-a-Thon was a blast! There was music, prizes, and a whole lot of walking and running! Mr. Lee, our principal, ran 14 laps around the edge of the park! That’s seven miles! Go Mr. Lee! Later that day at the Family Festival, we had prizes like stuffed animals, all sorts of gift certificates, and even a chiropractic appointment! There were also special shows like singers, tap dancers, and others. Great job 4th graders for that great performance! There were also a lot of treats like cotton candy, lemons with peppermint sticks in them, pizza, watermelon, soda, chips, Laffy Taffys, and lots more. To raise money for the 6th grade, we made murals and painted them and cut out the faces so that we could take pictures of the kids with their faces in them. We had people from China, Greece, Rome, and Egypt. There were plenty of games to play. I hope you had as much fun as I did. I also hope we made lots of money for our school! |
