Former Huntsville Resident Named Mrs. America By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Mrs. America 2004 Heidi Dinan Heidi Dinan, formerly of Huntsville, Utah, was crowned Mrs. America at the 27th annual pageant held in Waikiki, Hawaii on September 19, 2003. Currently a resident of St. Louis, the 31 year old Dinan represented Missouri at the national pageant, where she won more than $100,000 worth of cash and prizes. In December, she will represent America in the Mrs. World competition. Never having previously competed in a pageant, Dinan stated that she was surprised by her win in the Mrs. Missouri competition held in July of 2003. Dinan is a part-time model, and has a dream of writing children’s books. Friends at work encouraged the Missouri girl with Utah roots to enter the pageant. Heidi is married to Jeffery Dinan. Together they have an 8-year-old daughter named Kelsi. Mrs. Utah Rachelle Joseph of Salt Lake City was named first runner-up to Dinan. Heidi is the daughter of Karma Peterson, and granddaughter of Beatrice Peterson, both of Huntsville. Her 14-year-old brother Mark attends Valley Elementary. Her uncles Craig, Lynn, and Orville Peterson; and aunt Sonya Hartmann also live in Ogden Valley. Fifty percent of the Mrs. America Pageant judges’ selection decision is based on results from the evening gown and swimsuit competition. A group of individuals from Ogden Valley have been seeking a solution to safety and aesthetic concerns associated with the recent construction of a ten-foot concrete retaining wall built by the Bureau of Reclamation on the west side of the highway. The Bureau claims that the wall was necessary to bring the dam up to current seismic safety standards under the Safety of HIGHWAY 158 cont. on page 12 MRS. The Valley Elementary PTA sponsored the high-energy activity—a Walk-a-Thon with a whole lot of running going on around the Huntsville Town Park. Students and classes were pitted against each other as they competed for high stake prizes. Beginning bright and early on a fresh autumn morning, participants huffed and puffed their way around the town square, competing against each other and the clock—hoping to chalk up a winning number of laps before they, or the time on the clock, tuckered out. Students also collected donations for the school, taking in pledges for the run from neighbors and relatives. Mathew Starks and Jane Porter each won a new bike for raising more money than any other students in the school. The two top money raisers from each grade were awarded a portable CD player.
