Weber County Planning Update By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Staff On May 8, Weber County Commissioners will hold a public hearing regarding the vacating of all or a portion of the public right to that portion of the historic Trapper’s Loop road located in Weber County. The gravel road runs from the Jackson Fork Inn located in Huntsville, traversing the mountains southward into Morgan County. A request has been made by adjoining property owners to have the road closed to all or just motorized traffic. Apparently, off-road vehicles have been causing damage to property abutting the trail. Another public hearing on May 8 will be held regarding an amendment to the county zoning ordinance addressing the definition of “junk, inoperable or abandoned vehicles.” May 8 has also been set for a public hearing in order to take input, adopt and sign an ordinance amending the Master Plan for the Wolf Creek Resort Development. The Weber County Commission meeting addressing these, and other agenda items, will be held Tuesday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the Planning Commission Chambers at the Weber Center, 2380 Washington Blvd, Ogden. For more information, call the Planning Department at 399-8791. Free Water Quality Testing from the State Available for Private Well Owners Provisions of the Clean Water Act exclude irrigation, livestock, and other private wells from routine water quality testing. These wells, however, account for the majority of groundwater use in the state. In order to keep these well-owners better informed concerning the importance of clean water and gain a knowledge of possible ground-water contamination, the State Legislature has funded the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) to assist in free water quality analysis for private well owners and other agencies, organizations and concerned citizens. UDAF’s State Ground-Water Program uses local Soil Conservation District (SCD) members to locate sample sites. Their cooperation and knowledge of local areas has been very useful in distributing information, selecting wells for sampling, and meeting well owners, stated UDAF Water Quality Specialists, Mark Quilter and Ivan Sanderson. They have met with the SCD’s to provide pertinent information on ground-water issues. Districts then select wells in their area for sampling and for obtaining preliminary sample information. Your local Weber SCD, in partnership with UDAF, is now offering this free service in your county through April, May and June. The wells will be tested for bacteria, salinity, nitrogen and phosphorus content, as well as other elements. This is a non-regulatory community service to determine the quality of a well-owner’s water. Once the wells have been tested and analyzed, the owner’s name and the exact location of the well will be held confidentially. The test results, however, will be published in the state groundwater report. As a further service to the well-owners, the local SCD will hold a free water quality analysis meeting where instructions and discussion will center upon what the results of the analysis really mean and how wellowners can keep their water clean and safe. If you would like to have your private well tested for water quality, or would just like more information about how to maintain your private well, please contact SCD board chair LaMar DeFries at 731-0546, supervisor Eugene Bailey of Liberty at 745-6639, or associate board member Shanna Francis at 745-2688. -For Sale- -Lost & Found- For Sale: Suffolk sheep, 3 ewes with spring lambs, $100/pair; 1 ram, $50.
