Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 8 Volume IV, Issue II May 1, 2001 Weber High Student Wins Honor Rachel Wright, daughter of Kory and Chris Wright of Eden, won second place in the RE: WRITING 2001 Personal Essay Contest. The contest, sponsored by the Brigham Young University English Department, is offered to high school students. Rachel is a tenth grade student at Weber High School. Residents Look Forward to Valley’s Annual Shakespearean Festival Local residents look forward each spring to the annual bit of culture presented and performed by students at Valley Elementary. This year, the school will be presenting a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18. Tickets can be purchased from Valley Elementary by calling the school at 745-8713 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The price for adults is $3.00; students, $2.00; and a family ticket is available for $12.00. The family ticket includes reservations for two adults and four children. Checks should be made out to Valley School Shakespearean Festival. The green show will begin at 5:15 p.m. on the “valley green,” and the play will follow at 7:00 in the school gym. The green show is free and will provide lots of entertainment for the whole family. You will enjoy the dances, music, songs, puppet shows, and booths set up by various grades. Bouquets of flowers will be available for you to purchase. Local businesses will keep you well fed, as there will be no traditional banquet this year. Mark the event on your calendar, and enjoy a bit of fun and entertainment well worth your while. Ogden Valley Gang Awareness Night The Weber County Sheriff’s Office and the Ogden Valley Sheriff’s Citizen Advisory Committee are sponsoring a “Gang Awareness Night,” May 9, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at the Snowcrest Jr. High gymnasium. Vernon Hairston, Coordinator of the Ogden Metro Gang Unit and detective Gary Worthen of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office will present a two hour program for parents in the Ogden Valley area interested in attending. The presentation will show gang clothing, tattoo’s, weapons, signs and activities. The public is invited. Please plan on attending. Summer Program Fun! Camp Adventure lay er Py t a W Da Sunshine Generation Performing Group Fiel Snowcrest Announces Openings on Board of Directors Snowcrest Board of Directors Public Relations Committee Are you interested in putting some muscle behind your ideas to make Snowcrest an even better school? The Snowcrest Board of Directors has two community board member openings to fill. One board member is required to be a resident of Eden, the other a resident of Huntsville. There are also five faculty and staff positions that need to be filled by current employees at Snowcrest. Nominations can be called in or sent in writing to the office at Snowcrest no later than Friday, May 11. Please specify which opening the nomination you are making will fill— either an Eden or Huntsville resident, or one of the five positions within the school. Elections will be held in the evening after the school’s Spring Concert on May 15. The Board meets twice monthly and actively works to improve the education and environment for students through: Curriculum Enhancement Remediation, to help students succeed Enrichment, to reward success Funding Decisions, for available monies Get Involved—nominate a board member who will work hard to make a meaningful contribution to the education of our children.
