By Marissa Ahlstrom & Addison Hedges, Valley Elementary Student Reporters During the summer break, Weber School District will be getting ready for the new 2012-2013 school year. There are lots of teacher training meetings that are held in the summer. Dr. Stevens, Weber School District Superintendent, says that he hopes to see lots of teachers there! Come, come! Dr. Stevens will be meeting with faculties to talk about a proposed bond. The district will be asking for permission to borrow money from the public. He wants the public to know that the bond does not raise taxes. They will use the and is fond of camping—as long as he can money to help to make old schools nicer. There have most of his creature comforts of home. is one school in the district that is 84 years old, Most recently he went to Zions National Park and it needs help. The district also needs this for Spring Break, where he and his younger brother hiked by day and did complex calculus equations by night in preparation for AP exams. Jordan loves to play basketball and go camping with his friends. Most recently, he and his friends camped and prepared Dutch oven dinners on the shores of Pineview. Jordan’s parents characterize him as a very humble, nice young man who is an excellent example to his siblings. “He is also very involved with his schooling, church, and community.” money to help schools so that they can be like our wonderful school here in Eden. The bond is for $65,000,000. Wowsers! That is a lot of money. We asked the superintendent what his thoughts were on the new common core curriculum. He said that it is a big change, but that it is a change for the better. The new common core will teach Junior High students algebra and geometry. They will be taught all of those things over one year instead of learning algebra one year and geometry during another, and so on. They believe that this will help kids all over the district. The district will have a busy summer. Dr. Stephens and all the staff cannot wait to see all of the students next year—whether they are going to be in junior high, high school, or still in elementary school. Have a great, safe summer! Dr. Stevens loves you!
