The Union Station Foundation Prepares to Host 9th Annual Ogden Arts Festival On June 8 and 9, 2012, visual, performing, and culinary artists will descend on Ogden’s Historic 25th Street and Union Station for the ninth annual Ogden Arts Festival (www. ogdenartsfestival.com). Northern Utah’s largest multi-disciplinary event will feature more than 60 regional and local artists with award-winning fine art exhibits, the Foursite Film Festival, hands-on ARTivities for all ages, live musical performances, a plein air competition and silent auction, and the popular “Taste of Downtown” culinary event. The Ogden Arts Festival will kick-off summer, Friday, June 8 at 3:00 p.m. at Ogden Union Station Fountain Plaza with a Plein Air competition and a public silent auction. In addition, 20 artists will showcase their talents from booths around Fountain Plaza until 9:00 p.m. From 6:30 to 8 p.m., “Taste of Downtown” will offer culinary creations and samplings of downtown Ogden’s finest restaurants including Ravolis Ristorante Italiano, Tona Sushi Bar and Grill, Two Bit Street Cafe, Roosters, Union Grill, MacCool’s Public House, Crowley Gallery and Café and Jasoh!. Tickets are $10 per person. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. New this year, the Plein Air Exhibit and Silent Auction will be open to the Taste of Downtown guests in Union Station’s Gallery 51 where these freshly painted images of Ogden will be available for immediate sale or by silent auction. On Saturday, June 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., musicians, exhibitors, painters, sculptures, and other artists will showcase their talents at Union Station and along Historic 25th Street. Live musical performances, on two stages, acoustic and rock, will fill the air with music. A food court, as well as a beer and wine garden, will be available. Kid’s ARTivities will spark young artist’s creativity on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the Union Station north lawn. The ARTivities will provide a variety of free art forms offered by local non-profit organizations. Participating organizations include Weber State University Arts in the Park, Ogden Nature Center, Eccles Community Art Center, Union Station Foundation, George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park, and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah. New this year, Nurture the Creative Mind Foundation will present “Poetic Portraits” on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the Union Station south lawn. During this event, youth participants will read their poetry while artists actively paint the poet’s portraits, words and expression. Crowd favorites, the Plein Air and Quick Draw competitions, will become major attractions at this year’s Arts Festival. Plein Air competitors will receive a blank canvas on Friday, June 1 with five days to complete their work of art. Finished entries must be returned to Union Station’s Gallery 51 by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5. Boundaries for the Plein Air competition are set to capture the historic and natural beauty of the downtown Ogden area. Completed pieces will be included in the silent auction. Registration for the Quick Draw competition will begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Festival goers will be able to watch, as artists paint within the festival and immediate downtown area. Site of New Ogden LDS Temple The Sons of 17 at the Ogden Temple site. There will be Utah Pioneers May meeting will be a presentation on the remodeling of the Ogden Temple. The temple missionaries will give an update on the progress so far, what future construction plans are, and answer questions from attendees. Dale Satterthwaite of Big D construction will also be available to comment on the temple construction and remodeling projects. Participants will meet at 6:30 p.m. on May an informal dinner of your choosing after the presentation, which will last approximately one hour. The public is invited to attend this informative presentation. The June meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, and will be a tour of the Evanston, Wyoming railroad museum. Social Media Marketing in 20 Minutes per Day Local business owners are invited along with members to the next OVBA meeting on Thursday, June 21 at noon at the Ogden Valley Branch of the Weber County Library in Huntsville. The Ogden Valley Business Association invites local businesses to learn how to take care of their online social media marketing in just 20 minutes per day. Dakota Hyde will present principles and tips to start or improve social media campaigns for small businesses. He will explain the importance of building an online persona to increase brand awareness through social media. The focus of the presentation will be on tools, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Linkedin. He will give tips to keep a constant and consistent stream of content using the help of free social media managing dashboards, and explain the basics of monitoring social media analytics. This interactive presentation will allow questions from the audience. For more information visit <www.ovba.org> Ogden Welcomes the Far West Ski th Association’s 80 Annual Convention The Far West Ski Association (FWSA) rated by Warren Miller and Robert Redford. invites the community to participate in its 80th Annual Convention being held at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center in Ogden, June 7 through June 10. Activities open to the public during the three-day event include a new Far West Film Fest, a day program, and a silent auction offering more than $100,000 in affordable travel packages for bid. The silent auction and dance will take place on Friday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can bid on sports gear as well as more than $100,000 in ski and travel packages. Guests may meet with local and regional snowsports clubs. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the local Snowbasin Adaptive Sports Education Foundation. The event is free and open to the public. A Day Program will take place on Saturday, June 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For the special price of $50, attend a travel expo, luncheon, multi-media presentation, FWSA Snowsports Leadership Academy, and a public affairs panel session. The panel consists of representatives from the U.S. Forest Service discussing current issues relating to public land development, ski history, ski safety, and snowsport legislation. New this year, the Association presents the first Far West Film Fest on Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for $12. Proceeds will be donated to Can Do MS, Women’s Ski Jumping USA, and Make a Hero Foundation. The following films will be screened: “Can Do: The Legacy of Jimmie Heuga,” a story of how Jimmie changed the lives of those living with MS. “Ready to Fly,” a story about Women’s Ski Jumping USA featuring Lindsey Van and Deedee Corradini. “The Movement,” a story about disabled athletes, which features Rick Finkelstein.
