Show Volume XX Issue VIII The Ogden Valley news Page 11 May 15, 2012 Volunteers Needed for the Third Stage of 2012 Archery World Cup The Ogden Archery World Cup Organizing Committee is searching for volunteers for the third and only North American stage of the 2012 Archery World Cup, June 18-24, 2012. The stage held at the Golden Spike Event Center and Lindquist Field serves as the Final Olympic Qualification Tournament before the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Those interested in volunteering can sign up at www. ogdenwc.com and click on the “Volunteer Now” button. Registration is now open, and opportunities are available June 13-25, 2012. Volunteers are crucial to the success of this world-class event and are needed to assist with various functions during qualifications at the Golden Spike Events Center and during finals at Lindquist Field. Opportunities include accreditation and access control, field crew, event coordinators, hospitality, guest greeters, and results runners. Shifts will be added as available. Those interested in specific shifts should contact Karin at <volunteer.ogdenwc@gmail.com> Ogden, Utah is once again preparing to welcome elite archers from many countries to the third stage of the Archery World Cup scheduled to be held June 18 - 24, 2012. A new venue, the Golden Spike Event Center, will host the competition, which takes on a critical role this year—as the last qualifying event for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. During the pivotal event, increased participation from top archer athletes is anticipated. The critical third stage will be contested at the Golden Spike Events Center with the finals at the scenic Lindquist Field in Ogden. The World Cup consists of three stages including Shanghai (CHN) and Antalya (TUR). The World Cup Grand Finals will commence in Tokyo, September 22-23, 2012. The Adopt-A-Trail program on the Ogden Ranger District is designed for individuals and community organizations that want to make a difference through volunteering to help keep the trail system accessible, clean, and enjoyable. The Ogden District has approximately 191 trail miles, non-motorized and motorized. The trails are located throughout the district and vary in terrain, elevation, and difficulty level. The Adopt-a-Trail program offers fun, exercise, a chance to meet new people, and an opportunity to help the Forest Service in “Caring for the land and Serving people”. Individuals and organizations will provide basic maintenance on a trail segment for a oneyear period. Basic maintenance includes, trail clearing, limb and brush removal, trash collection, clean and repair water bars, and trailhead clean-up. Other duties may be available for specific trails. Volunteer opportunities are flexible. Volunteers can work at their own pace and on their own schedule. A Forest Service employee will oversee the project once AdoptA-Trail Agreement is approved and in place. The Young Runners Program is an eight-week educational series, implemented as an after school program, aimed to increase awareness of healthy lifestyle choices. The program culminates with individual entries to the Granite Construction KidsK at the Zions Bank Ogden Marathon. The percentage of overweight children in the U.S. is growing at an alarming rate; one out of three are now considered overweight or obese. The Young Runners program is executed one day a week after school, for eight weeks to provide students with suggestions and ideas to become active, improve self-esteem, and eat better. The YMCA and McKay-Dee Hospital’s LiVe Campaign designed the program curriculum.
