His homecoming was held Sunday, March 22, 2012 at the Middlefork LDS Ward chapel. Obituaries Emerson James Sales My Little Man, Emerson James Sales, came into our lives six weeks early on November 16, 2011, and returned Emerson Sales early to his Heavenly Father’s care on May 5, 2012. He was a momma’s boy. With his cheesiest smile and laughs he brought joy, pure joy into Sharon B. Unruh Sharon Barnett Unruh passed away April 26, 2011, ending her battle with cancer. She was born in Huntsville, Utah on July 15, 1929. She attended grade school in Huntsville when her father Floyd Barnett was principal. She graduated from Weber Sharon Unruh High in 1947 where her father was then a teacher. Sharon attended Nursing School at Dee Memorial Hospital, graduating in 1950. She worked at the Dee before moving to Los Angeles where she worked at Children’s Hospital. Sharon met and married Ross Unruh in Los Angeles and moved a few years later to Gary G. Anderson He lived, he loved, he had a good life. He was loved by his wife, children and grandchildren. “Lieutenant” Gary G. Anderson traveled to his mountaintop to watch over his family on May 8, 2012 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born June 25, Gary Anderson 1933, the son of Vera A. McCarthy and George B. Anderson, and stepson of Robert A. McCarthy. He married the love of his life, June Naylor, November 11, 1954. Together they raised three children of whom they are very proud. His family always came first. He retired in 1988 as a Lieutenant with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office after 24 years. He loved entertaining friends and family with stories from his police work. our lives. Emerson was the love of my life. He was the sweetest baby boy ever. Emerson is survived by his mom, Naomi Sales of Liberty; grandparents, Winston J. (Annette) Sales of Liberty and Rebecca (John) Salmi of Everett, Washington. He was preceded in death by his granddaddy Eugene and grandma Madeline. Funeral services were held Friday, May 11, 2012 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment, Willard City Cemetery. Caldwell, Kansas where she worked in the local hospital for 40 years. She served faithfully in her Church and community for many years. After her retirement she volunteered in genealogical libraries in Wichita, Kansas, and Ogden. She was preceded in death by her mother Josephine Robins Barnett; second mother Mazie Newey Barnett; her father, Joseph Floyd Barnett; and her husband, Ross S. Unruh. She is survived by her brother Keith Barnett; sisters Barbara Polson, Donna Stevenson, Connie Badger, Peggy Olney, and Kathy Ostberg; her daughter Dianne Lanier; son Michael R. Unruh; seven grandsons; one granddaughter; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Myers Mortuary in Ogden on Saturday, May 5, 2012. A viewing was held prior to the service. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at <www.myers-mortuary.com> Gary was a graduate of South High School, Stevens Henager College of Business, and had a degree from Northwestern University in Traffic Investigation. He taught traffic investigation for all incoming traffic officers for multiple agencies in Utah. Gary also served our country in the U.S. Navy. Survived by his beloved wife, June; children Cathy (Mitch) Karson, Vicky Gooding, and Lisa Anderson (Martin Porter); grandsons Patrick Gooding and Christopher Anderson; granddaughters Amanda Gooding and Rhonda Karson; his brother Robert (Jolene) McCarthy; and “his cat” Molly-Baby. Preceded in death by his parents and stepfather. Services will be held at the Fellowship Bible Church in Liberty at a future date in June. St. Florence Catholic Church First Holy Communion The celebration of First Holy Communion for St. Florence 2012 was held Sunday, April 29. Participants received the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, a practice dating back to the Last Supper when Jesus Christ shared his Last Supper with the Twelve Disciples. Father Cummins served the sacrament to each child after the instruction of prayers and lessons of Jesus Christ. Special thanks to Linda Klos, Father Cummins, and the other teachers who helped organize this celebration of the First Holy Communion for the children at St. Florence Catholic Church. Family members from Ogden Valley and different cities from all over the United States came to take part in the celebration. Obituaries Wayne Russel Messerly Our family patriarch, Wayne Russel Messerly, 80, passed away April 30, 2012 at his home following a brave battle with cancer. He was born December 4, 1931 in Ogden, Utah to John J. Wayne Messerly and Mary Louise Grunig Messerly. Russ was sealed to Myrna Stringfellow by Elder Harold B. Lee in the Salt Lake Temple on October 8, 1953; their union was blessed with five fine sons—John, Jeff, Joel, Jed, and Justin. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the East Central States Mission, was a High Priest in the North Ogden 1st Ward, and served faithfully in many positions. He especially loved serving as a home teacher. Russ served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from May 1953 to May 1955. He retired from Defense Depot Ogden (DDO) as a Division Chief. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, and scenic drives throughout Utah. He will be fondly remembered for his family cookouts and sauerkraut parties. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He and Myrna spent much of their lives watching their sons at the ball park or their grandchildren in their many activities. He is survived by his wife, Myrna; 5 sons and their spouses: John and Ann, Jeff and Cindy, Joel and Libby, Jed and Amity, and Justin and Brandi; 21 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Eleen Holly, Donna Fernelius, and Helen Hepworth. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters and five brothers; and an infant grandson, Luke. The family would like to thank Russ’ professional caregivers, ward members, and neighbors; with a special thanks to close friend Darrel Strebel for always being there. Funeral services were held May 7 at the North Ogden LDS 1st Ward, 600 E. 2600. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden.
