I have typed in Jeffs, Mikes, Brians, Steves, Tylers, etc., Kind but also had the One-Of-Names such as Thiesa-own- ed by Mr. Lindsay, Tai owned by Mr. Riser and a new one, Sidni --owned by Miss Allred. Jeff Davenport was a star basketball player for the Union Cougars from 1994 to 1997, and Jeff Drollinger was a top Uintah Ute eager in the early 1980a. They were similar players, and could easily switch from guard to forward. Sometimes they saw a bit of action in the post position. When I was doing all those stories about Union High School's hoop run that ended with a second place State Tourna.finish at the 1997 ment I had to be careful tb not get A 3-- A would have taken a Special Horse . to win the race. "SKS Running Faucett won a race, April 25 as the horse flooded out its competition. I hope the owners of this animal didn't leave their faucets running at home or they might have to use their winnings to pay off their water bill. I didnt get to see Jay Dee Masseys Yankee Hot Shot perform at the races. I wonder is Massey a New York Yankee fan? I hope that Yankee Hot Shot was named after shortstop Derek Jeter, centerfielder Beraie Williams, the late great Mickey Mantle, or catchercomic Yogi Berra. Now getting back to names of those who walk on just two legs. There was a gymnast that I could never get her first name right. Back in the late 1970s or early 1980s I always was able to get the Uintah girls last name of Hacking right, but I typed up her first name different times as: KayLynn, KayLyn, Kaylynn, Kaylyn, After she graduated from Uintah High School I was told it was: Kfiyn, but Im still in doubt What we need are more simple names like- - AH n, ". 5?or& . vetfps riAlhAi&k, Mays Union at Region 1 0 Track Meet at Park City, Utah May 8-- 9 Duchesne, Altamont at Region Track Meet in Moab May 9 First Round State Baseball Meet 3-- schools at home sites May 15 State Track Meets, 3-- 2-at BYU A A Trout population seventh. Unfortunately the good break turned rotten when Uintah recorded a doubleplay to clear the bases, and then struck out the last batter to set up the heroics by Honeycutt that produced a bitter defeat for the Cougars. Union had two base runners in the second inning when Hurley singled and Frandsen was walked, but Fudge Peterson proved his pitches didn't desert him . He struck out the next batter, and gained a pop up to get out of the jam. Rasmussen singled in the third. However, he was stranded on the base paths. Parker Morrill turned in some fine defensive moves at first base to torment the Utes in the third. He backed up and produced a catch and then bagged a shot off the bat of Honeycutt for another out. Peterson grounded out to Morrill for the final out with the Union first baseman recording all three outs. Honeycutt and Strange singled with two outs in the fifth, and then hurler, Frandfien backed up and almost tripped over the mound to catch a pop fly to end the threat. Unfortunately, Union's defense wasn't super enough to keep three costly home run shots from dying in someone's glove. Earlier in the week the Union Cougars lost to the Dinos in CarUnion led 3 after 5 bon, 11-innings, but Carbon erupted for eight in the bottom of the Bixth to edge the Cats. Union added one in the seventh. Frandsen and Rick Rasmussen homered for Union. Frandsen also had a double. -' one-hand- 9. 8-- 2 being protected A new Colorado cutthroat trout population in Emery County will be given some needed protection after portions of one of the county's streams was closed to fishing April 23. The emergency amendment was declared by Division of Wildlife Resources Director John Kimball. All other rules established in the 1998 Utah Fishing Proclamation remain in effect.- ' " Closing this portion of Crandall Creek to fishing will allow a newly reintroduced population ofColorado cutthroats to establish themselves, said Tom Pettengill, Division sport fisheries coordinator. Fishing will not reopen until the fish are reproducing on their own, and we see good numbers of fish in the stream, Pettengill said. Those with questions may call the Divisions Southeastern Region - would automatically type Jeff Drollinger instead of Jeff Davenport because they had the same first name and last names started with a D. I caught myself and corrected the mistake so that it never appeared in the newspaper. I recall one lady wanted a different, but traditional name for her son. Instead of Michael she named him Mikel. However, her son foiled her plans when he went by the nickname ofMike. I know another Mike, who went by Micheal (No, it isn't : office at (435) 636-026- 0. a typo.) While on the subject of names, I just love those Wild and Crazy Titles those folks, who take part in the Petroleum Downs Race Meet, give their horses. I will ljat some of my favorites from the 1998 meet. I was rooting for Three Easy Six Packs to win the Quarter Horse Maturity because I figured if the horse won there would be a good party, end plus I could put in my stray that Three Easy Six Packs Celebrated at the end. I could have also reported that Six Packs popped its top over the win. Unfortunately, Three Easy Six Packs didnt finish among the top four, and the root beer was flat. I figured since Sinless Sister was raci ng on Sunday that the horse would have a good shot at winning the Quarter Horse Futurity, but the horse finished second to I Say It Special".
