Llamas had scores of 175 bench, 265 squat, 135 clean for a total of 575 at the weightlifting meet at Cyprus High School in Magna. Cyprus won the team title. Unions Katie Fieldsted lived up to her name aa she made a shoe string catch out in right field, and outfielder, Tosha Berrett made a great throw to nail a runner at home plate that turned out to be costly to the Utes in the one-ru- n Cat victory. Union teammates gained the outs when they needed them in the bottom of the seventh inning to enable Union to shut down a Uintah Ute rally. The triumph gives the Salt Lake Tribune No. 1 ranked softball team, Union a record of 0 in Region 10 play. Union has the region title all locked up with one game left that was scheduled to have been played Monday, May 4 in Park City. Union had an 3 lead going into the sixth inning, but Uintah, a team the Cougars beat by one run in Roosevelt last month, scored two counters to come within three at 8-- Levi Gines, a junior from Tabiona High School, a guard on the varsity basketball team will be competing ' in a national basketball tournament in Hawaii this summer. Gines was selected to be on the team by Utah coaches from across the state. The team will feature the best from the state ofUtah and the Utah team will be playing against others young men from all 50 states tournament. in the week-lon- g Gines, who was named to the Team and was named by the Salt Lake Tribune and Desert News as Prep ofthe Week, has been playing varsity basketball since ninth grade. He has earned a reputation as being a tough player to defend. As a player on the Region 16 Champions and a third place at this years state tournament, Gines has worked hard to achieve his goals in basketball, and playing in this national tournament takes home one step further towards those goals playing college ball. Coaches from colleges and universities will be attending this national tournament to see all of the young men play. Currently Gines is raising money to travel to Hawaii. He is also involved in many schools activities, including playing on the track, golf and baseball teams.
