MR 1NE UINTAH BASIN RECORO The ,u t Thursday, Chamber Four new committee chairmen were named recently by the Duchesne City Chamber of Commerce which also heard State Representative Dan Dennis discuss Basin problems. John Stafford will be Membership chairman. Butch McGhee will head the Special Events committee, Royden Hill will chair the Commercial Development and Tourism committee, and Les Brown will handle the Public Relations function of the Chamber. Rep. Dennis encouraged the members to examine their own community to see what it could do for itself before gang to the state or federal government for help. He said one of the problems laced by local governments is that too many communities look to the state or federal government for help when the problem could be better handled on the local leveL Another problem touched on by Rep. Dennis was that historically Duchesne County had not had enough influence among the decision makers of the state July 26, 1973 Maid ! By ;t & i Roosevelt Area Chamber of Commerce -shop at ;.'v-- PiiiIi 0. Bell The Chamber of Commerce family is growing - we now have one hundred and of those one paid members. Fifty-fiv- e have come in since we opened our offices on June 1 of this year, making it a little over a member a day. We had forty of these members to our last Thursday more than evening Chamber meeting-te-n attended our first evening meeting, so we are progressing, at least membership wise. When we call on a business we are not asking for a contribution! It is an investment in the community. It is insurance for that investment, business and industrial expansion, more payrolls, more people to serve and the personal satisfaction of being an integral part of Roosevelt. Generally one would think of a membership drive as a drag", but Til have to say that it has not been a drag for me. It has been an enjoyable experience getting to know the new people in the area and becoming better acquainted with others. I find it interesting to hear the various comments on the Chamber of Commerce, the City and other matters. It is good to get a variety of opinions on the issues being us. I am glad for the opportunity to sell Roosevelt and the Chamber of Commerce organization. It is not a big job to sell something you really believe in and I see a great future for Roosevelt end for the Chamber of Commerce. I hope that my enthusiasm for the values of an active Chamber of Commerce becomes contagious. . .1 would like to expose everyone to the benefits of the Chamber by inviting anyone interested to our meetings. We have a new committee in the Chamber, the New Comers Committee. Wayne Smith, manager of Uintah Freight is the Chairman of this committee. I had a chance to get acquainted with Wayne last week as we made membership contacts, and I do feel that he is an asset to our community. He is civic minded and I believe will be a lot of help to us as a member of the Chamber. Get acquainted with Wayne, he is a great guy to know. We are in the midst of change. . .change brings challenges. . .challenges call for new approaches. . .we hope that involvement in the NEW Chamber of Commerce will provide strong influence and assistance on special problems facing our area, and that our challenges can be met with Unity of purpose. The Yard was Empty. . .The yard was empty. . .but the need to send a message was there. A young lad of four, climbed to the top of the playground slide and shouted Listen to me. Listen to me. Then counted loudly, one, two, three four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten". Shouting the message may be the answer. Having someone listen is even more essential. Have a message, shout it, but be sure the yard isn't empty. If you have a message to shout come to Chamber of Commerce meeting, we'll make sure the yard is not empty.
