But while we are on the subject, don't you agree the Woild Championship banner has been Hying too north of the border long enough? I mean think about it, this is America's past time, not North America's. The only reason the Toronto fans are watching baseball at all is the ponds are not frozen yet and roller hockey is just plain boring. (As we have learned all too well.) Who ever heard of everyone er t iu 451-670- 7. S' Junior Dart wrestling camp set KAYSVILLE Registration is now under way for the annual Davis Junior Dart Wrestling Camp. Well, probably nothing, except for the good feeling we would all get from knowing we were rooting for the right team. I Big game hunts varied because the nutritional value of the vegetation on summer rangers was reduced by lack of moisture. Then, with a heavy snowfall, the deer had a difficult time moving and finding forage, so there was a higher than normal rate of winter kill. Elk, being a more aggressive animal in terms of being able to search for food, fared better than the deer population. The elk herds, The big game hunts are under way statewide. In general terms, the deer populations are down while the elk herds held even or slightly increased. r 'y The drought year of the late 1980s and early '90s reduced the deer herds by slowing down reproduction. In normal or good habitat years (habitat being food, water, shelter and space) we can expect some of the yearling does to have a fawn while most all of the older does will have at least one and usually twins. During the drought years, yearling does delayed having fawns and many of the older does either did not have fawns or only had one. As a result, fawn recruitment to the herds was down drastically. To add to the problem, deer went into the winter of 1992-9- 3 in poorer condition which had been boys. John Olcrud? Robert Alomar? Paul Molitor? Come on, give me a break! It looks like the MTC has moved up to Toronto and started to play our game. These guys look like they even watch what they eat non-shavi- expanding, remained about even in and some areas expanded slightly. Superb Steak, Ckicken The deer hunt harvest will no S. Jlighway probably be below normal and the elk harvest should be about what it has been for the last several years. Due to the amount of moisture in the mountain areas, the animals were spread out in September and probably higher than they have been in recent years. than normal STORMING Tin's. That is enough reason right there. If you listed the top ten most intriguing players in the series, there might not be a Blue Jay on the page. Not with guys like Lenny Dykstra leading off and getting on no matter what it takes, John Kruk ripping his pants diving for a grounder and doing nothing about it but feel better, and Darren Daulton leading them all into battle like a possessed Arnold Swartzeneger. Then when all those guys have done their damage, a man named Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams closes the door. Williams throws so hard he cannot stand up after he throws the ball, it's no wonder no one will dig in against him. So next time you sit down to watch a World Series game, have patience when the announcers talk about what a pretty swing Olerud has, or how slick Alomar plays second, because they think we are impressed with that kind of thing. We know the truth, the trophy belongs to a real town like Philadelphia, and with a real team like the splittin', scratchin', divin,, winnin', Phillies. standing up and gelling a lump in the thioat by singing "Oh Canada?" It just is not right. But as I said, the Blue Jays' location on the map is not even the best reason to cheer for the Phillies. Have you seen this team from Philly? It does not get any more Amei ican than this. These guys are mean, nasty, dirty, and gruff, they think no one is as good as them, and they will do anything to win. See what I mean? Very American. 1 hese guys look like that softball team you hale to play. They swear, guzzle beer, laugh a lot. and snicker at the opponents, just like the team that wins your slow pitch league every year. Now granted, these may not be the character traits you want your sons or daughters to have, but it sure makes for more entertaining baseball than these clean cut arc defensively the right team to be cheering for during this year's fall 10-1- 2, f b3 World Series title belongs in Philadelphia SportScene f Tuesday, October 19, 1993 JeeptEagleftSuiuki HERE IS THE SAI.E OF THE YEAR!
