Show DAVIS COUN i t uurrcK i uesaay, Uctooer la, A special BOUNTIFUL meeting will be held on Thursday to discuss preliminary design plans for a new park at 400 E. and Bountiful Boulevard by the City Council at the Clubhouse at the Bountiful Golf Course beginning at 7 p.m. We are encouraging residents of Bountiful interested in the park design to come and to give us input, City Manager Tom Hardy said. We are interested in the reactions and suggestions of neighbors that will use the park in the future. At the Oct. 13 meeting of the council the governing body authorized the city officials to submit a grant application for matching funds for $225,000 to help construct the new park at 400 E. and Bountiful Boulevard. no-sho- w RICHFIELD The teams were all warmed up and ready to go but four people were conspicuously absent - the officials. Thus the football game between Richfield and Cedar City was canceled resulting in a forfeit for the Wildcats since the home team is responsible to ensure the officials show up. I still havent found that travel brochure that advised travelers to report everything to the Moab Police Department, but its out there. Officers responded to a local tavern on a report of a stolen vehicle. The dispatch advised the officer prior to his arrival that the reporting person had called back and advised "never mind" the car had been located. It is not an unusual occurrence for folks to "lose" their car after spending time at the bar. The officer was unable to locate the reporting person. He probably drove home, being too intoxicated to walk. The Time Independent In other action at the Oct. 13 meeting, the council gave approval to a cooperative agreement with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) for upkeep of a street light at 500 South and 500 West. Police Chief Doug Crosby said that profanities and pictures were scrawled on the walls with a black permanent marking pen. Several lockers were broken into as well. "We do have some suspects, and leads are being checked," said Crosby. The perpetrators, who apparently gained entry with a key, will be charged with burglary and theft. Southern Utah News BOUNTIFUL GRAND COUNTY -- - Six of Grand County's seven county councilmen may have to stand for election on Nov. 2, having served less than a year in office. Petitions for recalling all members of the Grand County Council except Ken Balantyne, were received by County Clerk Fran Townsend in time for the action to be placed on the general election ballot this fall. Mrs. Townsend said that she and her deputies have not yet had time to check names on the petitions against voter registration rolls. According to the Optional Plan for Grand County Government, adopted by the voters last year, there is a provision for petition for recall of elected council members after six months of a members term of office. A number of factors have led to the recall action. Since the change in government passed in November by a fairly narrow margin, a number of hold-ovanimosities remained from that campaign, which resulted in the demise of the old Grand County Commission. The episode began when the Box Elder County Sheriffs department alerted Oneida County Sheriff that a dark green Dodge Spirit was headed toward the Idaho border after skipping out on $12 in gas from a Plymouth gas station. Noticing a road block near Malad the stolen car spun around and headed south. Utah Highway Patrol officers joined the chase by blocking traffic behind the stolen car and lining the freeway with spikes. The stolen car swerved around the spikes and continued southward, at times reaching speeds of 105 mph. The stolen car left the freeway on the Honeyville exit and tried to find the entrance to the northbound lanes, but became confused and began driving northbound on the southbound lanes. The car crossed the median strip several times attempting to get on the correct side of the freeway. An Oneida County patrol car was able to pull along side the car where Officer Bill England was able to shoot out a rear tire. The car was one of two cars stolen by the boys from a Larry H. Miller dealership. After driving around Salt Lake City the night of the theft, they were picked up in Rose Park while sleeping in the car. They appeared before the judge the next day where they were referred back to their foster care home. The next day they jumped into their second stolen car which was parked a block from their foster home and after stealing license plates from a wrecked car in a parking lot, began driving toward Oregon to find their father. Bountiful Mayor Bob Linnell made the announcement about the latest delay at the Redevelopment Agency board meeting on Oct. 13. When postal officials visited the site a few weeks ago they realized the design plans would not work and they had to start over from scratch, Linnell said. The Postal Service had to put off the bid for another two to three weeks. Last August the Postal Service had released information about the design and construction phases including a projected move-in-daof Feb. 28, 1995.
