For instance, the city parks department has several activities to get into. Dixie College offers a variety of tours during the school year and local travel agencies offer some tour ideas. There are some exquisite displays of art at the galleries and museums plus this area abounds in unsurpassed canyon lands and majestic beauty throughout the entire year. Information on tours, events, and activities can be obtained from the respective agency or representive. As for the scenery, here is a brief description of a small part of it. Fall is full upon us and the colors that spring at you from the canyons and mountains is breathtaking. Some trails and areas of the canyons will be already closed, or closing soon for the winter. Check with proper officials to be sure about the places that you desire to visit. Bryce Canyon has some great walking trails that begin at an elevation of 8,000 feet. There are three choices of walking conditions depending on how strenuous you want your day to go. These are marked so that you will know: green trails, the easy ones; blue trails, intermediate; and red trails, for the hearty hiker. The visitors center will assist anyone in finding accommodations, selecting tours and nature walks, and any other information needed concerning the canyon. Time, nature, and two rivers the Green and the Colorado have combined their efforts to create our next pick. This is Canyonlands National Park. It is divided into three separate sections: Needles, Island in the Sky, and the Maze. The Needles received its name due to the orange and white banded rock pinnacles. It includes: arches, rock spires, canyons, pot holes, prehistoric Indian ruins, and countless pictographs. The Island in the Sky can be reached by a gravel road and will enable you to see numerous spectacles from its lookout points. As with Bryce, the trails here are also divided into degrees with three green trails, as well as several blue and red trails to select from. For those who like to live a tad more is the Maze area. The Maze is the least visited section of n the park and it is quite remote in to the other sections. It offers maze like canyons, tall standing rocks, as well as spears of colorful sandstone. The third scenic delight offered is Zion National Park. Zion is Utahs oldest national park, and it is a paradise of rainbow hues and visual pleasure. The deep narrow canyons and the incredible variety of sculpture like rock formations, and sheer steep walls are a breathtaking sight. The visitors center can cover any needs relating to a stay in the canyon area. Some canyon activities are not offered during the winter months so check to see what is offered. Some other places in the Intermountain Region that might be of interest: Glen Canyon, Rainbow Bridge, Cedar Breaks, Hovenweep, Timpanogos Cave, Dinosaurland, the area around Flagstaff Arizona, Lake Powell, and the Arches National Monument. The sites to see in Utah range from A to Z, and if one chooses to spend ones life seeing all there is to see in the state, it would be a worthwhile undertaking. If one travels just a little south, visits can be made to the Flagstaff vicinity and the Grand Canyon. Complete information on these areas can be obtained from any Arizona Infor- mation Center. Cultural enhancement and appreciation of nature should be a part of every students life: take advantage of these opportunities.
