Colorful and creative campaign decorations were seen across Dixie Campus for three weeks, pro- moting the freshman and sophmore teams. The preliminary elections limited the competition to two teams running against each other in each class. Throughout the race for dominion over their adversaries, all four teams worked hard and very often late into the night, trying to make their own campaign more appealing. The Guess team caught the attention of the students with the waving jeans strung up around campus and passed out Guess Jeans logo for the supporters to wear on the backs of the jeans. The veteran leaders are old pros here at Dixie. They demonstrated their vote-gette- Dale Hatch discusses state budget Kim Peterson SUN f Last week the goveners budget officer, Dale Hatch, went over many of the state budget issues with Dixie Colleges facutly, staff and administration. While introducing him, President Alder remarked, Hes the Rolland Woolley of the state of Utah. Hatch talked about what has been happening in the state of Utah economically the last few years and several times brought out the point that Utah is not unique in what it has been experiencing economically. But he went on to say that Utah definate-l- y is unique in the demographics. He also discussed what ramifications would have been if a tax increase would not have taken place last year ind what would or could happen if the tax initiatives were to pass and what mpacts it would have on higher Society has turned towards service society. This is important because the average wage amount for service occupations are much lower than those in the goods producing sector. Some of these low paying jobs he was refer-in- g to were teachers and professors. And since society has turned more towards the service professions, the wages are lower and it has had an impact on taxes. He also talked about Utahs demographics. He stated a well known fact that Utah has more children than ' other states and is still increasing. Between 1975 and 1985, our public education population increased by 97,000 students. A 30 percent increase. This increase has continued to climb every year since then. While Utah was increasing 30 percent, the nation as a whole was decreasing by 12 percent.
