Show I Adams crowned as new Homecoming Queen Kim productions Marydee performed a Dont Cry For Me solo, Peterson SUN vocal The feeling of anxiety and nervousness filled the air in anticipation of the announcement of the 1987-8- 8 Dixie Homecoming Queen. The Master of Ceremonies, Max Rose read the ballot drawn out of a Pepsi cup handed to him by the judges. And the new Dixie Homecoming Queen is number 11 - Angaleza Adams! The crowd went wild as Angaleza was crowned and flooded wi ,ses by the 1985 Homecoming Qteen Miss Tiffany Larkin. Miss Adams is a native of St. George and graduated from Dixie High with high honors. Angaleza is a sophmore majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Performing Arts. She is presently head cheerleader at Dixie. She plans to continue her education after Dixie at BYU. Her talent for the pageant was a tap dance performed to Argentina. Keeley Snow was chosen as the second attendant and is also a Dixie High graduate. She is a freshmen at Dixie this year and is a member of the National Honor Society She is majoring in Music Education with vocal emphasis. For her talent number, Keeley performed a classical piano solo. Third attendant is Lisa Beckstrand, also a St. George native. As a sophmore at Dixie, Lisa is part of the Dixie College Honor Society and the cheerleading squad. Her talent was a ballet dance to the medley from Oklahoma. Charlene Love was chosen as the fourth attendant to the queen. She is a freshmen this year and her plans are to become a journalist or teacher. Saturday At Hand was a song Charlene wrote and sang while playing the guitar Janet Farrer was nominated b the other contestants as Miss Dixie Spirit Janet is from Weber High and is a sophmore who plans to become a physical therapist Contestant number 18, Annette Stewart, was voted Miss Photogenic by the judges from portraits taken by Lynn Clark Photography who also awarded the winner with her 'bv 14 portrait The other queen contestants were 1 Nikole, Cami Davies, Cherie Reese, Jorie Neeley, Shanna W'alkcr, Janet Farr, Coreen de Berry, Jodi Cottrell, Valoie Thompson, Anongla Phoumihphat, Suzie Jones and Tasha Smnh Commued on 2 Pagr Hooray For Hollywood. The first attendant is Marydee Potter, also a graduate from Dixie High School. She is a sophmore and plans to continue her education at BYU in Speech Therapy She has had several leading roles in many Dixies Theatre Argaleza Adams, a St George native, was ,rowned, last Monday, as the 1987-8- 8 3 Dixie students arrested on drug charges Bruce Humphreys SUN Staff Writer i Following a three month investigation, three Dixie College students were arrested last Sunday in a raid on their apartment. The three suspects were arrested early Sunday evening with a search warrant by Dixie College Security and St. George Drug and Alcohol enforcement officers. Arrested I Homecoming Queen and booked into Washington County Jail on charges of possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, were: Mike John F. Rogers 21, Roger Clark 20, and Shelby Cordel Pierce 18, a fourth suspect is being sought in the investigation. Following the initial misdemeanor charges, the three in custody were additionally charged with felony counts. Don Reid Chief of Security at Dixie College filed third degree felony distribution of a controlled substance for value charges against Rogers ana Pierce. Reid also filed second degree felony distribution for value charges against Clark. The bail for the three suspects already incarcerated was set at $1,000 00 each. Rogers requested a court appointed attorney while Clark and Pierce chose to retain their own legal counsel. Preliminary hearing will be held in Washington County Court on October 29, at 2 00 P.M. Seized in the raid were various items of drug paraphernalia, a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, traces of a white powder believed to be cocaine or speed. Don Reid, Chief of Dixie College Security stated that the drug raid brought together months of collective undercover work by school and city law enforcement investin' ns. Reid said, The studei.is that were involved in this investagation are the exception to the rule and not the normal. Unfortumately, many people think that students here at Dixie who do have a drug or alcohol problem got it once they arrived at the school; actually, most students that do indulge in illegal activities were involved with them long before coming to Dixie. Dixie has shown a marked improvement in the number of students that have gotten in trouble with law enforcement this year over the same period last year.
