"ENEMY MINE," What starts out as a stunning and completely original science fiction film eventually becomes a melodramatic piece of hokum, ft's a shame, becouse the stunning effects ond two fine performances by Lou Gossett Jr. and Dennis Quald are wasted. The story Is set In the distant future. one human, the other a T wo enemies find themselves stranded "drac" on a remote planet. Will they kill one another? Or will they make peoce? "THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY," A pop bottle falls from an airplane flying over Southern Africa, nearly striking XI, a bush-maIn the head. He sees It as a gift from the gods and embarks on a lourney to return It. This Is a fresh, wonderful comedy as we follow XI's exploits. Robert Retford plays t lover; Klaus Marla Brandauer Is her husband In an arranged marrloge. Sydney Pollock does a masterful ob of combining oil these elements for an extraordinary film. Rated PG. "ROCKY IV, Sylvester Stallone relies on the same old formula to get us cheering for Rocky Balboa, and quite frankly Its wearing a little thin. This time Rocky takes on a Russian fighting machine who has been developed to prove the Soviet Union's superiority over the U.S. The movies best moments are the choreogaphed violence In the ring. "THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL," Geraldine Page takes us Inside the character of Carrie Watts like few actresses do. We come to know her strengths, her weaknesses, her past and her dreams. And we like her for her playfulness. Adapted from a Horton Foote play, this Is a fine drama about an elderly woman who wants to return home, to the rural land where she was raised, and where she in turn raised her children. John Heard, Carlin Glynn, and Rebecca De Mornay round out the fine cost. Rated PG. Regency. TROLL," A girl Is befriended by a magical troll expert at decapitating people. "WHITE NIGHTS, This film runs the gamut from sublime to ridiculous. As a dance with Mikhail Baryshnikov ond movie It Is exhilarating. As a tale Gregory Hines about espionage and Soviet repression. "YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES," Owing much more to Steven Spielberg than to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this film speculates about what would happen hod Holmes and Watson met while schoolboys.' The strong points ore the young cast, the Victorian setting, ond the remarkable special effects that you expect out of a Spielberg production (Barry Levinson directed).
