Show 16A The Salt Lake Tribune, Wednesday, Jan uary 15, 1986 NATIONAL ARMY & NAVY STORE FAA Sets Public Meeting On New Radar Service 'iOF THE YEAR t .The Federal Aviation Administration will hold a public meeting Wednesday at the Salt Lake International Airport to discuss the implementation of a new service. The meeting will be held at the state aeronautics hangar at 7.00 p.m. Dick Meyer, public affairs officer at the Northwest Mountain Regional Office of the FAA, said the new radar service consists of instrumentation and rules known as the Airport Radar Service Area. ARSA is a way to force the general aviation community to use radio d circommunications in a cular segment of airspace, 10 miles in diameter and 10 miles tall. FAA law would require that any pilot flying into a ARSA must be in radio contact with the local governing facility, Mr. Meyer explained. air-traff- two-tiere- Consequently, ARSA gives controllers a better picture of air traffic in the designated airspace and enables them to to provide pilots with im proved radar service, promoting control and more effective lessening the potential for midair collisions, Mr. Meyer said. The FAA published a notice of the proposed system last October to announce the II airports that have been identified as candidates for ARSA implementation, said Mr. Meyer. The ARSA concept underwent extensive evaluation at the Austin and Columbus airports recently, Mr. Meyer said. Salt Lakes ARSA service has been proposed for May, but in order to gather public opinion, the FAA has scheduled the meeting. There will be a public comment period in which community viewpoints can be expressed. Each participant will be given the opportunity to give a presentation, and a summary of comments from the meeting will be filed with the FAA. Applications are due Friday from men and women interested in being accepted to the University of Utah College of Nursing baccalaureate program. Students in the program take regular university courses their first two years and then apply for admission to the College of Nursing. Following two years of nursing courses, they graduate with a bachelors degree in nursing. The applications are for spring and autumn quarters.
