THE DRESSER," an acting tour de force with Albert Finney playing Sir, a dedicated British actor on the verge of physical and mental collapse. Tom Courtenay plays the actor's dedicated dresser, the only person who can rally Sir's falling faculties and get him on stage. Both Finney and Courtenay are up for Oscars; their performances con- - gets good performances from his actors, but with contrived plot twists and endless scenes of "hot" love making, It becomes hard to believe. GORKY PARK," this contemplative murder mystery, based on Martin Cruz Smith's novel, stars William Hurt as the Moscow policeman and Lee Marvin as the evil American. Newcomer Joanna Pacula Is the young woman who Is the key to solving the crime. Sometimes slow and talky, but overall a satisfying thriller with an Intriguing performance by Hurt. Rated R. Arcade. HARRY AND SON, Paul Newman stars and directs this movie about a father and son at odds with each other. The drama falls apart at the seams as all sorts of irrelevant subplots detract from the central story. Robby Benson seems stiff and artificial os the son. Newman's performance Is far from his best. Valley Twin. n RETURN OF THE JEDI," the finale of this Star Wars" trilogy makes good on all Its promises: It stands alone as a great adventure, It ties all the plot stronds from the previous films together In a Satisfying way. "THE RIGHT STUFF," Philip Kaufman's adaptation of Tom Wolfe's novel about the birth of America's space program Is at Its best when It tells the story of Chuck Yeoger, the man who first broke the sound barrier. An uplifting, often humorous film about heroic deeds and patriotism. The message here Is that, above all, America's first astronauts were regular guys who suddenly found themselves heroes. Rated PG. TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, Debra Winger, Shirley MocLolne and Jack Nicholson star In this sometimes amusing, sometimes tragic story about a mother ond daughter coming to orlps with their love for each other. A soap opera, but one with excellent performances. Rated PG. Villa. "TRON," the computer generated Imagery in this film Is stunning, but the story, about a computer whiz who finds himself fighting for his life Inside of a video game. Is a disappointment.
