Show 8C The Salt Lake Tribune Friday, March 16, 1984 Hill Dominates NCSA Women Special to The Tribune STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. -Carole Hill of Washington State dominated, the womens alpine events at the National Collegiate Ski Association Championships held here this week, according to the final results released Thursday. Hill, who won both the womens Tuesday slalom and Wednesday giant slalom, lifted Washington State to second place in the womens GS team standings. The College cf Idaho from Caldwell which won the BYU Invitational earlier this season, won the womens team title. Idaho skiers were led by Sheila McGlynn, who was second to Hill in the giant slalom. Ogdens Heidi Hoffman of Brigham Young was third followed by Meg MacKenzie of Unviversity of California at Northridge, and Amy Glackin of Boston College placed fifth in the giant slalom. Colorado College finished third in the womens giant slalom standings with BYU fourth and Brown University fifth. The University of British Columbia won the mens giant slalom team title, led by John Hilland, who was the individual mens winner. Boston finished second in the mens GS standings, followed by College of Idaho, Brown, and BYU. Rob Arsenault of the College of Idaho was second in the giant slalom with Stuart Gairns of Brnish Columbia third, while Boston College's Jack Coghlan finished fourth and Walt Brown of Colorado State was fifth. Cougar, Bill Schenker placed 12th for the best BYU showing in the mens giant slalom. The College of Idaho also was named winner of the womens combined title, fol lowed by Washington State. BYU placed fourth. British Columbia won the mens combined championship, followed by Minnesota. BYU, College of Idaho and Colorado State followed in order. After the first giant slalom run we were in good shape," commented BYUs Ford Stevenson. "But it rained most of the afternoon and created horrible conditions. One third of the mens field went out in the second run, he said of the difficult-skiing conditions. "Our women went into the nationals ranked eighth and finished in fifth plate and our men were ranked fourth and placed second. I was pleased with what we did.
