As its fourth season begins the club has more than accomplished that feat, and is now moving on to bigger things. Last year alone the club visited seven states, including a trip to the Grand Nationals in Lincoln, Neb. This year the ciub plans to visit at least that many states. The club is currently taking signups for the upcoming season. For $30, a wrestler of any age can join the club. Signups are being held at Granite High School weeknights from 6 to 8 p.m. Signups will continue until interest drops off or the club is full. Every Level of Wrestler We take every level of wrestler there is, and there is no age limit, explained Dee Winderlin, one of the founders of the club. "We have advanced kids who we take to the naand we tionals, we have have kids who don't know a thing about wrestling. The only wrestler who cannot be on the team is one currently competing on a high school team. In the past we have wrestled international teams, and in 1984 the Oklahoma team will be coming here. International Forms The club does not teach the traditional Utah high school form of wrestling. We also hope that by traveling around if we can get some of the older boys exposure it will help them get a scholarship in college. One of the best ways for a wrestler to get national recognition is by on the mat the 8-- placing high in the Grand Nationals. Wrestlers from the Sundance Club have been placing very high in the championships as of late. Last year in the zone competitions, 23 of 28 Sundance wrestlers placed in the top three. The Sparklers just beat out the Rocky Mountain Gymnastics team from Salt Lake City, 138.40 to 137.25. In the Class II category, another Nevada team, Flips Academy, Reno, ended up in first place. The Sparklers took second in the Class II The meet went very well." said Blake Starr, coach of the host USA Gymnastics World-Salto- team s which operates out of Bountiful. "There were 60 participants in each session, and there were about 400 spectators for the Saturday meet. It went well enough that we will do it again next year for sure." The Saltos team is the only one in Utah that conducts an invitational meet. The team is just one of many clubs in Utah that has good talent, and performs at invitationals throughout Utah, Idaho. Washington. Nevada and other states. Club gymnastics compete directly with high school gymnastics teams, and there is some tension between the two.
