Just Pin Murray Baseball Brothers Play Familiar 'Name Game' Title on Sundance Coach By Patti Auer Tribune Staff Writer MURRAY — Murray High School has been successful in baseball because top players such as Chapman Beck Bolingbroke Forrest Lewis and Mackey suit up year after year You could say that Spartan baseball is a family affair The Spartans winners of five region titles in the past eight years have continually relied on brothers to enhance the program This year there are several brothers of former top players in uniform for the Spartans Following an older sibling isn't easy for the players But it's a bonus for the program says Murray Coach Bill Seibenberg "They've all played well" he said "They're in a situation where they I S Timeout - And some come in hoping to do even Kevin Bolingbroke's brother Mike played on two of Murray's state championship teams and was an selection It looks as if Kevin could repeat that feat As a sophomore he was named to the team something that few sophomores have accomplished "It's tough to follow a brother But it's also to my advantage" said Doug Chapman "A lot of coaches look at you just because of your name I felt a lot of pressure at first but now it's a lot better" Playing on the same team with an older brother isn't as easy as some people think Cody Winget points out "I played with Cheyenne as a freshman and a sophomore It puts pressure on you because everyone judges you on what he did" the senior whose father also played baseball for Murray explained Chad Forrest can remember skipping school as a youngster to watch his oldest brother play baseball for Murray "It's in the blood I guess" he said His brother's team made it all the way to the championship game of the state tournament something Chad and the Spartans missed by one game last year "He kids me a lot But if we make it to state this year we will do well because of experience — and coachall-sta- all-regi- ing" Murray players in discussing the baseball program's success point to Coach Seibenberg But Seibenberg points to Murray's long list of brothers who lend the same names to success year after year Inquiry School' Accepting Registration Realms of Inquiry School 1140 S 900 East a private institute that teaches children ages 10 to 14 about the outdoors is currently accepting registration for two summer sessions The school offers two four week sessions consisting of outdoor activities environmental experiences and development of social skills and Students learn basic outdoor skills such as hiking equipment use first aid and development of interests and abilities During the four week course which meets Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm students participate in activities such as swimming hiking to Millcreek and Timpanogos Cave outdoor cooking and a visit to Hogle Zoo The course culminates in a four-da- y trip into the high Uintahs The first session begins June 13 and lasts until July 8 with registration due June 6 The second session begins July 18 and lasts through August II with registration due July 11 Cost for the course is $295 with an advance deposit fee of f 50 For more information please contact the school IT f 4 expect to win because they've watched the games for so long They always think we are the team to beat It's hard to coach siblings because every player is different But they all come with the idea they should win better than their brother" Brothers? At first base for Murray is senior Doug Chapman University of Utah basketball fans know Doug's older brother Keith Many also know the oldest Champan Steve All of the Chapmans are outstanding baseball and basketball players Murray is known for its strong pitching this year One reason is Chad Forrest He follows older brothers Clint and Bart There are also the Winget brothers — Cheyenne Cody and Carson Cheyenne plays for Dixie College while the other two play for the Spartans this season Ryan and Rick Lewis are another brother duo that suit up for Murray When you think of wrestling — especially for youths - one name comes to mind Jeff Winderlin He is responsible for introducing the sport to numerous youngsters He has elevated some to the ranks of international competi tion To all his students he has in the words of a friend "been a model of con- sistency dependability and warmth" f The Utah native has been involved in wrestling for many years Many prep and collegiate wrestlers learned their very first moves from Mr Winderlin He is founder and head coach of the Sundance Wrestling Club which has been in operation for eight years Five hundred athletes from Delta to Brigham City have participated with the Sundance Club Four wrestlers under Coach Winderlin's guidance were chosen to represent the United States in international competition winning two gold a silver and a bronze medal He has arranged meets with many national teams including Japan Sweden By Patti Auer and Austria "" " Many Granite High wrestlers know Coach Winderlin For five years after graduating from the University of Utah he volunteered his time at Granite High He has served as the administrator of the Utah branch of AAU wrestling the 1980 Regional Olympic trials and the AAU regional tournaments To say he has volunteered thousands hours is an un- T ' derstatement In 1986 Mr Winderlin received the Norton Chirstiansen "Salute to Volunteers' award and was named the USAW Coach of the Year He was also involved in the recruitment of many wrestling officials One of those officials has become the State Pairing Master and another the head Freestyle Official Mr Winderlin has received little if any monetary gain from the many long hours he has contributed to the sport He is one of those volunteers who do it for the love of the sport Wrestling has been a big part of Jeff Winderlin's life And Jeff Winderlin has been a big part of wrestling V I —Tribune Stofl Photo by Steve Gntfm through the baseball program Another Winget Carson is currently a sophomore Cody Winget is one of the many Murray players that has followed an older brother nn yi2 u Ji nil ii i Jfa a u inn) LJULJk n- - ra 7 rui t i if - - i r J " rjf T - r4' 1 : liil-FilL- ii I? if!
