Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY Sports MAY 16, 2001 Kanab golf team snags fourth By Kyle Brunner The weather couldnt have been hotter for the two-da36 hole tournament in the desert in Moab, Utah. Pain and frustration set in because of the hot y, temperatures and skinny fair- ways. Most golfers didnt make the cut after the first day, but you know the good ol Kanab linksters did. After one round, the Cowboys were in fifth place. Down 35 strokes to first place team Juab, Kanab was in a lot of trouble. But, they strapped on their golf cleats and hit the course bright and early at 8:00 in the morning following a nice, exquisite conti18-ho- le none-the-les- s, on the scale and held on to the fourth place position. The Wasps of Juab choked on the final day, giving Rowland Hall the first place trophy and slipping all the way to third place, behind San Juan. The host Grand Red Devils finished in fifth place. Kyle Brunner shot a 165 two-da- y total, which was good for fourth place overall in the gruel- ing tournament. Brunners first day round included an eagle three on a 600 yard par 5 when he holed a wedge shot from 110 yards out. Josh Bentley also did well, shooting an 81 on the second day to put him at 174 for the meet, good for 15th place. Cody Brunner came in with a 93-9- 2 nental breakfast.
