Show 6 The Kanab Area Vacation Guide Souvenir Edition Kane County Came by Little Hollywood Honestly Brunner As you travel through beautiful Kane County, you're reminded of the old westerns you used to watch on TV. You can almost hear the cowboys chasing after the men in black who just robbed the noon stagecoach. Rounding By Dixie one bend in scenic Kanab Canyon, youre startled to see a bridge mountain, high atop a wind-sweexactly like the one you used to see in The Lone Ranger. You may feel a sense of dejavu when you visit southern Utah. Chaunce took aerial and backcountry pictures of this area. He assembled the remarkable scenery shots into a portfolio and headed to California to peddle Kane County to Hollywood. The boys bought the motel (which now bears their name) on the bend in Kanab. Whit Parry made sure that their place could take care of the special housing needs of the filming groups. He further arranged with other motels to help room and board any they couldnt handle. Gron took on the job of providing film sets, props and people. It industry. Kane County has gotten plenty of video exposure through the years, claiming an impressive 92 feature length films. It all started way back in 1924 with Tom Mix. Lynn Reynolds brought Mix to Johnson Canyon for the filming of Deadwood Coach. When asked what the most impressive movie filmed here was, in terms of magnitude, most will tell you that it was The Greatest Story Ever Told. With a production budget of $25 million, and ready community employment for the eight months of shooting, it should have been named The Greatest Blessing to Kanab. The Parry Brothers1 hard work paid off. Movie making in Kanab and Kane County continued for many years, bringing to this community literally tens of thousands of actors, actresses and film crews. The community enjoyed rubbing elbows with Hollywoods elite, as well a the economic benefits the film productions ld brought. Kanabs Little Hollywood years were special.
