Show Feature By Barbara Pyles Plans are officially off and running for the 12th annual Kanab 10K on May 8, 1999 - Mothers Day weekend. Other events are being planned to make the 10K an enjoyable event. At one time, the Kanab 10K was one of the largest and most popular 6.2 mile races in southern Utah. It all started in October of 1984 when Jon Martin attended the St. George Marathon. He was so impressed that he returned the following year to run the race. At that time, Martin was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Every July 4, the club held a fundraiser breakfast, so Martin fun planned a 10K and S3 SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY APRIL 7, 1039 the race was dropped. In 1996 and 1997, the race was run un- der the leadership of Terry Tucker. But its the springof 1999, and the Kanab 10K is back. The plan is to build the race back up to where it was in 1993, and go on from there for future growth, says Martin. Martin puts his finger on a key to the success of the Kanab 10K Everything we do is done in some shape or form in every other race everywhere. We just have to do it a little better.
