The Kane County Narcotic Strike Force is an appendage of all Law Enforcement Agencies within Kane County. It consists of one narcotic agent whose main function is to identify, develop cases, arrest, and assist in the prosecution of individuals who sell illegal drugs within Kane County. The Strike Force exists through an interlocal agreement established by, and operates under, a board of directors from each of those agencies, which are; the Kanab City Police Department, Chief Doug Crosby; the Kane County Sheriffs Office, Sheriff Lamont Smith; Orderville City Police, Chief Leon Brinkerhoff; the Utah Highway Patrol, Sergeant Roger Cutler; the National Park Service, Agent Joe Sumner; Utah Division of Investigation, Sergeant Garth Wilkinson; and KanS County Attorney Colin Winchester. Due to the close proximity to the border town of Fredonia, Arizona, and our common drug problems, the board has asked Fredonia Marshal Mike Mellor to participate in Strike Force meetings and operations. The Strike Force is funded through a Federal Grant, which is overseen by the State of Utah, and provides 75 of the agencies operating expences, the additional, matching funds, 25 are provided through the interlocal agencies or through monies generated through narcotic seizures and restitutions.
