Show News SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY JANUARY 31, 1996 3 Kane County Commission meeting By Richard Negus Roads Sherman Cox asked about the Hole-in-the-Ro- road mainte- - ck nance situation. Chairman said the county attorney will get together with Garfield County and turn the work over to them as soon as possible and work out suitable compensation, Highway safety Chief Deputy Allen Johnson told the commission that a $ 13,000 federal grant for high- - way safety was available to his department, the only problem being that the county had to pay up front and then get reimbursed by the federal grant. He was told to go ahead and pay it through the Sheriffs budget and get the money back by opening the budget later in the year. Johnson added the Federal Safety people had given the department a $5,000 video camera they had lying around. Zoning change Bodicca Joseph, on behalf of several landowners, asked for permission to rezone 40 acres in Church Wells from residential to commercial. The planningcom-missio- n have approved the change. In answer to a question as to what type of use is permitted in a commercial zone, Commissioner Crosby gave a brief rundown of the permitted uses. The owner of a trailer park business now in Church Wells asked what protection he would have from a competing use. Norm Carroll answered there was nothing in the zoning rules to prevent any business from being opened, provided it meets the criteria. Joseph said the use may be boat storage on a portion of the property. She also said one piece in the 40 acres is zoned agricultural and she felt that a herd of cows in the middle of the area would not be a fitting use. Mrs. Upchurch from Church Wells said she was in favor of the change. Crosby read a fax from a resident concerned that there was not provision for turn lanes coming off Highway 89. The commission voted to endorse the planning commission decision. Planning Commission Norm Carroll said that there were three vacancies on the planning commission due to the fact that a commission member should not vote as a member. Thayne Smith, whose term expired 123 195, but who has been allowed to continue as chairman, pending a new appointment, disagreed. Attorney Winchester said the change could be done today, however the commission decided to appoint two members now and third one when the revised plans are adopted. The commission voted to accept the names of Thayne Smith and Larry Casebolt from a list , prepared and presented by Mr. on the situation.
