The Facts About Garkane Energys Proposal to Kanab City On June 30, 2003, Garkane Energy Cooperative submitted a proposal to purchase Kanab Citys Municipal Power System. We thought you might like to know the details of this proposal. The proposal will provide Kanab City Power customers with an immediate average rate reduction of 30 - 35 percent. The bonded indebtedness on the Citys power system will be paid in full. The Citys loans from UAMPS will be assumed by Garkane and paid over time as scheduled. The power departments loan from the Citys General Fund will be repaid in full. Kanab will receive approximately $260,000 in cash above outstanding debt, prior to any costs the City may have in disposing of the system. Kanab City Pow er customers will become memberowners of Garkane Energy Cooperative with all the benefits of co-o- p membership, including voting rights for representation on the Board of Directors, rebates from our power supplier which are passed on to members, and capital credits which result in refunds when Garkanes revenues exceed expenses. Under the proposal, Garkane will perform much needed maintenance work and tree trimming in the City, which is currently not being maintained to prudent utility standards. They came up to the Best Friends Clinic, and since it was an emergency, they were treated here, rather than being referred to their own veterinarian. Dr. Virginia Froehlich prescribed hydro- gen peroxide to induce vomiting. Since this was rat poison, the dogs were given injections ofVita-mi- n K to counteract any longterm effects. Rat poisons reduce the amount of Vitamin K available to the liver to create blood-dottin- g factors, so the animals die from internal bleeding. may Vitamin K tablets were also prescribed for the next seven days. , v' d , ; 44 M&m lwrfrnniinfouil, ilill your City Council representatives. Garkane would be honored to serve all of Kanab City. Thank you. fOairkarae energy If there are any signs of bleeding during those seven days, Dr. Virg recommends that these dogs report to their veterinarian immediately. Signs ofbleedingmight include pale gums, blood in the stool, nosebleeds, bruises, or sore, swollen joints. Its important to note that different poisons work in different ways, and Dr. Virgs treatment was specifically for rat poison. Always go straight to your vet if you suspect poison. Remember, too, that humane traps are the best (and kindest) way to keep rodents out of your house. You can get them at Critter Comer or Crosbys Home Center. But if you do have any poison lying about, be sure to keep it whereyour pets could never reach it. Also, very few poisons can be counteracted once theyve thoroughly made it into your pets system. Early detection and immediate vet care are crucial! These three explorers dont even know how close they came to being statistics! Were glad to see ' them wagging their tails - and eating safe treats once more. 14 If you think this proposal makes sense, please contact a member-owne- 6 WEDNESDAY AUGUST 27, 2003 r;Tn-r- !
