Confounded cave Dear Editor: A number of years ago (40) when I lived in Kanab, I was taken to a cave in Houserock Valley by Mel Schopman and a couple of others (Bonham, Green, Cram) who had run cattle there. Id like to communicate with someone who could direct me to it again. Its been nearly 50 years, but I cant believe its lost. The site was south - dont know how far, perhaps four miles of the old Highway 89, west of a dirt road, somewhat uphill, perhaps a quarter mile. Entrance is a vertical hole, maybe under a tree. Is there anyone in town who would have any idea who to talk to, or even be likely to know where it is? My name is A Richor email ard Tagg, net. ar taggbcglobal 650-851-06- . A Richard Tagg Jacob Hamblin correction Dear Editor: We truly appreciate the articles you have run regarding our Heritage Highway 89. Many of us believe that it is important to support Senator Bennetts bill that is before Congress to designate this Central Utah corridor as The Mormon Pioneer Heritage Highway 89 Area and hopefully a grant of $10 million to promote it. These could result in the economic stimulus we need. In my last article, that appeared in the August 20 edition of the SUN, in the sixth paragraph, you omitted part of a sentence that turned our beloved Jacob Hamblin from a hero to one who assisted the Indians attack" and annihilate. The correct version went something like this: ...who spent the rest of his life befriending and helping the Indians, and undoubtedly saved many pioneer settlements from the Indian attacks and annihilation,... Big difference. but the readers will understand that a mistake was made, somewhere. Thanks for all you do, including s u pplyi n g u s wi t h some great hoys. the Salt Lake Tribune entitled Removal of Signs Reignites (sic) Road War and the subsequent reporting on the 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Channel 5 News. The touted information obviously came from a BLM informant. We wish to express our appreciation and sincere thanks to Sheri ff Lamon t Smi th and Kane County Commissioner Mark Habbeshaw, two of the finest citizens in our county. They do their research and homework because they are very concerned about maintaining property and county road rights for the rest of us in a legal and forthright manner - we repeat - in a forthright manner. The media pictured vandals them as with no concern for negotiation, ht compromise, law, property rights, etc. Everyone needs to know the rest ofthe story. Ask them about the facts. This was not a last minute decision to go remove signs and antagonize someone. As it was reported in the Tribune, the BLM was asked twice in recent months to remove the signs, but no action was taken. So what should be done; sit back and let BLM have their way? Governor Leavitts aide said there is a cooperative process going on to identify roads. Just as youre innocent until proven guilty, the roads belong to the county until proven otherwise. Youve heard about the compromise made between the bear and the hunter? The bear got the hunter as his meal and the hunter got his fur coat! Does it frighten you a little that an emissary of the federal government can take over your property and shut you out of it?? We are very grateful that our hard-earne- d elected county officialsrecognize that the majority of the county ci ti zens do not want county roads closed or limited except as deemed proper by the representatives of the citizens. We understand no signs have been put up on Garfield County roads in the Hmmm! Thanks again Mark and Lament and others who cared enough to help! You have our moral and physical support! Losing the man of the house is so hard as we all know, whether it be family or friend. Tammy and the children need our help. Mikes illness drained the family financially, and with no life insurance to rely on, all the costs just keep piling up. Tammy has no job to fall back on and it will take a couple of months for any kind of social security to come through. We are asking for the help of our fine community to help this young family. There has been a fund set up in hopes that each of us can donate a few dollars to help. Accounts have been set up at Zions Bank, State Bank, and Mtn. America Credit Union in the Hardys name. There is only one question to ask ourselves, What if it was my family? So please help, if its only a dollar, great, but try to dig deep and help as much as you can. God Bless you all and thank you in advance Angel Love Center Larriettes say thank you purchased tickets even though you were unable to attend. Thank you so much.
