Show 16A Sun Advocate, Price, Utah Wednesday, June 23, UHP gives Carbon buses highest rating 1982 When a child boards a Carbon District school bus parents can rest assured their child will be delivered safely to school as the Utah Highway Patrol has rated the district AAA for safety maintenance on school buses. The district was one of 13 to receive the award this month. The Highway Patrol has created an ongoing incentive program to encourage Utahs school district bus garages to excell in their bus maintenance programs. The Highway Patrol presented the award to William Gentry, transportation supervisor. Superintendent George Behunin said for at least 10 years under Gentrys supervision, there has never been a discrepancy or defect in any bus when inspected by the Highway Patrol. Districts are allowed a maximum of one defect per 20 buses inspected to qualify for a AAA rating. According to Sgt. Area women miners attending the conference are Joy Huitt, Wanda Davis, Evelyn Hicks, and Rose Hurtado, all of Price River Coal Co.; Ann Byerley, Wilberg; Elnora Clark, Horse Canyon; Irene Pritchett, Kaiser Steel; Judy Franco, Beaver Creek; and Agnus Chappa, Deer Creek. The conference is sponsored by the Coal group that Employment Project, a works with women miners. Mrs. Huitt said they will be the only Western women coal miners to be represented in the conference. This promises to be the largest gathering of women miners ever held, with women miners from Utah to Pennsylvania to Colorado to Alabama, said Betty Jean Hall, director of CEP. According to federal records, 3,556 women have begun underground mining careers since the first woman miner was recorded in late 1973. Over 2,000 of those women have begun their mining careers since Jan. 1, 1978. The conference will feature workshops on such subjects as The Changing Equal OpThe UMWA Contract for portunity Scene, 84, and Report from a Study of Accidents Involving Women Miners. Mrs. Huitt said the Utah group will present a workshop on the organization of a womans support group. Among the media which will definitely be covering the conference is 60 Minutes, the CBS program which is filming a segment on women miners which will be aired this fall. 3 Pc.
