Show 5B Cancer Society To Form WVC Unit WEST VALLEY. The Utah Division of the American Cancer Society will hold an organizational meeting at noon Monday at Pioneer Valley Hospital for persons interested in forming a local unit of the Amnerican cancer Society. Accortding to Mandy Canales, field representative for the Society, the volunteers are needed to serve as officers and commitee members so that the full range of American Cancer Society services can be provided to the West Valley community. The other units in the Salt Lake area dont reach West Valley as well as a unit in the area would, said Ms. Canales. Currently, only patient services and rehabilitation services are being offered in that area. A unit would offer public education and information as well as the opportunity to par gram helped me every day, she said. The public should know about it, so friends, relatives and children can understand exactly what the patient feels. The program will help them understand how to treat a person with cancer. The program, called I Can Cope, is an eight week r series of classes designed for patients and family members. In the beginning, I didn't understand what the doctors were saying, and when I found other patients were having the same problems, I no longer felt stupid and incompetent. Travis Lynn Barney has received the Eagle Scout award. is a member of the The varsity scout team 6644 in the LDS Jordan North 5th Ward. For his service project he constructed a rock drinking fountain for the stake recreational property. Barney has earned 26 merit badges. Archery was his favorite. He has also received his bronze palm and varsity scout letter. Barney has served as patrol leader, senior patrol leader and varsity program manager. He served as crew leader for his varsity scout team on a 61 mile, 12 day backpacking expedition at the Philmont scout ranch in Cimarron, N.M. He also holds the arrow of light, faith in God and on my honor. Last month Barney won a trip to the United States space camp in Huntsville, Ala. A prize winning essay won him the honor of being fli? Cameron attended the Vanguard and Silver Moccasin Jr. scout training programs and is a member of Order of the Arrow. He has served as deacon's quorum president. Harris Melby has earned the Eagle Scout award. The son of James and Pamela Melby, 4240 Bluebird, he has earned with boating, 23 merit badges, fishing and sports being among his favorites. A member of troop 852, with Ron Hatch as scoutmaster, he will be a junior at Skyline high. For his service project, the Melby youth made tubes in which to place publicity flyers. As an extension of that effort, his two younger brothers, Jesse and Spencer, plan to affix the tubes to mailbox posts as their service projects while working toward Eagle Scout badges.
