Show 6 THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, July 30, 1987 Rocky Mountain Plans New Gymnastics Format behaviors are pass. After completion of the six levels, students are invited to the competition program, in which there are another four levels. This paralles the system. The U.S. European Gymnastics Federation will institute a similar system on a national level following the 1988 Olympic Games. The new program was developed by Mark Lee Lee and Blake Star. Mr. Lee is current a member of the U.S. National Gymnastics Coaching Staff and has coached several U.S. National team members. He is a member of several National Coaching and Teaching organizations and has worked numerous national level European coaches. Blake Star is a former National Certifier of the United State Gymnastics Safety Association, a certified Emergency Medical Technician and a member of several national organizations, including the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has over 15 years teaching and coaching experience. MURRAY. Rocky Mountain Gymnastics, one of the powers that be in Utah club gymnastics, recently an- nounced a new developmental program that will begin operation in September. This program was developed from the need to upgrade the present program and keep up with changes in the sport. In addition, consideration was made for those students entering the program as a result of the cancellation of many of the physical education programs in the pubic schools. The curriculum utilizes techniques, skills and levels gaught in European countries, including Russia and Romania. Another will be a aspect of the program to the parents, report card monitoring each childs progress. The program consists of six levels of skills and requirements, each of which is given a specific team name. Students without any prior gymnastics experience begin in the White Ribbon Team program and move up as specific skills and Bats Desert Granite In Legion Losses Bingham at 6 when they will play a suspended game which will start in the top of the seventh with Granite at lead. They will then bat with a play that night in a 7:30 game at Midvales park. In the Monday game against Brighton the Granite hitters could not solve the piching of Rick Yauney as they picked up but five hits while the Brighton team was collecting ten off Jason Done. GRANITE PARK. Granite's hitting, which has been good all year and carried the team, seemed to desert them this past week as they lost three games, falling to Brighton on Monday, taking a 10-- loss to Tooele on Friday, and being bombed by Skyline last Wednesday 18-The Granite team will wind up their season with games against Hillcrest on Wednesday (after press time) and on Friday they will be at 7-- 1 It was a long week for the Cottonwood Legion team as they played four games and lost all of them falling to West Jordan Monday to Taylorsville on 1 (see Taylorsville Saturday story), losing to Murray in a slugfest on Friday by 3 and to Cyprus on Wednesday 14-7-- 15-1- Jordan 4, Cottonwood 2 15, Cottonwood West with five big runs plus five more in the fourth. Judge then held on in the last inning, w hen Cyprus scored two SALT LAKE. Judge Memorial has a good chance to make the Legion Round Robin tournament, according to coach Robert Rendon, as it won two of four games played over the runs. Robert Chacon went the distance for Judge, while Clint Meyer, starting in only his second game for Cyprus, was relieved by Preston Lohmeyer in the third with Mike Nunley coming on in the sixth. Tommy Houghton had a good day with several runs batted in for Cyprus with Bill Robbs adding two doubles. Jimmy Scarselli was 4x5 with four runs batted and Ben Soto had two doubles and four rbi's. past week. Judge lost to Granger Tuesday 15-on Monday, lost beat Cyprus to Kearns Friday (see Kearns story) and beat Highland on Wednesday 2 2 18-1- Granger 15, Judge 2 This game, which had been postponed from the June 17 opeing date, was not a good one for Judge as Granger scored three in the first and 11 in the second. Jake Shewmake held the Bulldogs to only four hits, homer by one of which was a two-ruAndy Kavoukas. Soto started on the mound for Judge, but was relieved in the second by Bishop. Judge Highland 1 Chacon also went the distance for Judge in this one. With the score 0 Judge after three, Chacon found himself and limited Highland to one run over the next four frames. His mates, meanwhile, were picking up seven runs. The team is managed by Lloyd Kidwell. The coaches are Steve Clayton and Craig Trujillo. The team is now currently involved in an AAU tournament at Mueller Park in Bountiful. Madsen had four rbis. For the Chevron team, Greg Hill had a 3x3 night, scored twice and had an rbi, while teammates Steve Carling, Craig Carling and Kevin Kinder each had two hits, Kinder driving in four runs. The Hansen Club was sparked by the one-hpitching of Chris Hansen. Opposing pitcher Don Cowley, who gave up six hits, spoiled Hansens no-heffort with a single in the third. Hansen struck out 13 and walked no one. Hansen's scored once in the first and second and twice in the third. Swim Meet Beginning COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS. The Country Club League Swimming and Division championships will be held tomorrow (Friday) at Willow Creek Country Club and Monday and Tuesday at the Fort Douglas-HiddeValley Country Club. Tooele Cottonwood Drops Four Legion Games The Colts started off with a rage at West Jordan when Kenny Jewell led off the game with a long triple and scored on a passed ball, Stephen Sato then walked and Mike Robinson hit another long triple to score Sato. But from then on West Jordan pitcher Carlsen held the colts in check and West Jordan scored two in their half of the opening inning when Molen walked, stole second and an outfield error on a dropped fly ball enabled him to score and Scott Krans scored on a single by Ryan. The Jaguars scored one in the fourth when Martin was hit by a pitch, Taylor walked to send Martin to second and he scored the go ahead run on a throwing error. With two outs in the sixth Molen singled, stole second and scored on a double by Krans. Both starting pitchers pitched fine games with each pitcher giving up but six hits. Carlson struck out five while walking three and Bob Helm struck out five while walking three. Scott Krans had a double and triple for the winners while John Harris, currently hitting .475, had a double and a single for the Colts.
