The plot may be shallow, the premise frothy and the characters so cartoonish theyre out of this world but who cares? None of it matters much to the glitzy. bewitching glamour and glorious opulence of Cole Porters Anything Govs, the Murray Arts Council's summer musical currently on the stage of the Murray park amphitheater. The sparkle the satin the the 1930s decadance . . . sequins and the two most important words of all - Cole Porter - all add up to a entertaining evening under the stars. Not only is the music delightful, the production is guaranteed to keep you both singing and laughing long after you leave the park Mary Williams, as the seductive Reno Sweeny, convincingly plays a nightclub vixen wise to the ways of the world. The costuming literally took the production off the stage of the amphitheater and plopped it right down somewhere in Las Vegas. All the glitter and glamour and glitz can be placed right at their doorstep . . . Doug Bishop's direction and Leslie Allens choreography can also take part of the blame. While the amphitheater may have a relatively small stage, at times Anything Goes transcended that limited stage and seemed to be coming from Radio City music hall itself. As you no doubt can tell, this reviewer was impressed with the production and highly recommends seeing this show. And theres one more chance to do just that.
