I do a lot of 'odd' things, and, while they might not be fun to you, or you, or you, they are to me, and by golly, I wouldn't change it for the world, and so, I'm seldom bored. See, a long timo ago a good toochor taught ma to say "yes" to Ufa, and, as a result, a lot of neat Invitations hava coma my way. Soma I haven't cared to repeat, but others have been so great I go back and back. An after leaving the office on Friday afternoon, I was at a mountain retreat, staying for two nights and two days. It was a time of complete silence, teaching and meditation. :: About 30 of us were there and to me it's like being In a cocoon. Sheltered, loved, cossetted and not one single thing expected of me. Bonnie and Jack Roddy do all the details. Heaven I 5 if ti That dear, wise, loving man, Dr. Usharbudh Arya made his seventh annual visit here, and I, the same as all others who know him, put aside all else to be there. Three lectures, three meditations a day. Well, I suppose you can call such informality lecturing, for, you see, we all sit on the floor with our 'tuffetts',in the loosest clothing we can find, and silently listen to Arya talk. We don't say a word. Just listen . . . learn . . . and, strangely, get to know and love each other just the same. d But, I must say, it isn't the kind of a weekend the I mean weak-legge. . . should go into lightly. weak-hearte- ... d If you have no experience in meditation, it's not for you because it's not a beginner's course. You sit from 45 minutes to an hour on your hard pillow, with legs folded, no back rest, spine straight, not moving a muscle. Nope, even those familiar with the yogic postures can inwardly want to 'die'. Your legs can cramp and you think if you dont move you'll scream, but you don't. And, when that sweet man softly tells you to open your eyes and move your body, you doubt if such a thing Is possible, or wonder if you ust have two petrified stumps hooked onto your hips. My legs, at different times, do one of three things. First, sail through it like a breeze with no discomfort. Second, however, my hip joints can hurt like mad and simply have to come to terms with the pain. Or thirdly, my legs turn to stone. They become so 'dead' that when I try to sneakily move them a trifle, I find I must 'pick them up with my hands' to wiggle them. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Salazar I never get away with it, however (and neither does anyone else) for Arya's eyes see us and his voice will lovingI say, "Straighten your spine and your legs won't hurt." ly He's right, too, but egad, it's hard. However, that's the discipline for mental concentration and we do it and go back for more. The rewards are there, but plain them. You just have to 'learn by experience.' I can't ex- And then theres the food. Sally and David Sheppard are responsible for at least 10 pounds extra on my hips, but how I enjoyed the transit. I've never eaten beHer dishes anywhere, and, to top it all off, it was right up my alley. Get yourself a good set of recipes, however, for the 'cheese' known in the Orient for ages, is bland by itself, and takes on the flavor of whatever it is mated with. Scrambled Tofu, properly prepared, can hardly be differentiated from scrambled eggs. And none of that nasty cholesterol, either.
