Show ftftMST valley SAYS SHE written. Since I was already grouchy, I decided to get a few of my pet peeves off my chest. No sense wasting the bad mood. The reason I was grumpy, and an honest-to-goodne- ss pet peeve of mine, was the hour of sleep I Daylight Saving Time. My body has a very delicate inner clock. I dont need an alarm clock to wake up, I know when its time for dinner (and every other meal) and Im ready to fall into bed moments after the 10 oclock news ends. Annual White Cane Sale Is Due In Magna MAGNA. Members of the Magna Lions club will hold their annual White Cane Day on Saturday, according to Joe Ribotto, sight conservation committee chairman. With the assistance of John Wilson and A1 Carman, Ribotto will coordinate efforts of members of the organization in selling the small White Cane decals throughout the Magna business areas. Don Blackham, Lions club president, said funds collected from the sale of the White Cane emblems will go toward the Lions sight conservation programs. Sight conservation and work with the blind is a major area of activity for Lions clubs throughout the world, he pointed out. Blackham noted that Lions have been concerned with this work since 1925, when Helen Keller, known as the angel of the blind, appealed to delegates at the Lions International convention for greater participation in sight conservation and service to those without sight. He went on to say that in the past, that may not seem like a significant amount, it represents a 16 percent hike. For me the irritation was heightened because it came in a month when some workman had managed to knock out cable in our home for a four-da- y period while working nearby. Complaining on a weekend is useless. But nothing was deducted for that, even though knocking out cable also meant that we had to make several adjustments before we could even pick up network television. And to add insult to injury, the picture we now get is far inferior to that we once enjoyed. And Ive not yet been able to figure out why the Denver station received via cable was knocked off the air for the decisive game which was more than a sellout of the Salt Palace. Making an effort to call to complain about the increase brought two more irritants to the surface. I dialed the number on the bill I While My mood was not enhanced by the fact that it was the first of the month and time to pay lost Sunday morning to bills. Jazz-Denv- I'm perfectly willing to be responsible for those I incur, but I was extremely irritated to open my bill for cable television and discover that it had been, without warning, increased by $1.25. the Magna Lions club has sponsored glaucoma and diabetes clinics and provided the services of the Utah Lions mobile medical van. Each year the group supplies eye examinations and glasses for several needy persons in the community, both young and old. In addition, the club has collected hundreds of used glasses which have been sent to the Utah Lions Foundation for shipment to underdeveloped countries. Blackham said a portion fo the funds raised by the White Cane Day project will be donated to the Utah Lions Foundation, which has the responsibility of funding the Utah Lions Eye Bank, now one of the fastest growing in the country. The Eye Bank, he added, provides corneas for transplant, a last step sight-savin- g procedure for many people suffering severe visit n problems. Utah Lions have collected 288 eyes during 1983, several of which came from the Magna area. In summing up, Mr. Blackham pointed out that the Utah Lions were instrumental in proving seed money to establish fie Chair of Ophthalmology at the University of Utah Medical Center. He urged residents here to support the White Cane program. del" li'iliil'lil j er had received one day earlier, only to discover that the number had been changed. After trying at random times for three days and being greeted by a busy signal, I decided to put my irritation in a letter. Not that its going to do one bit of good. Nor is it going to do any good to call the postal department and demand that they stop leaving all that junk in your mail box. Ethel already tried. And got absolutely no where. I read my advertising in newspapers and that local garbage I receive on a weekly (or is it more often than that?) basis goes straight to the trash can. Or becomes fire fodder during the winter months, which this year are dragging on just a little bit too long for my taste. If theres anything more irritating than junk mail, its the 1984 N telephone equivalent. The minute I pick up the phone I and hear, Mrs. Bartmess, begin to seethe. I know the caller does not know me and hasnt anything to say that I want to hear. Generally Im being hauled out of an easy chair, or worse yet, the shower, to hear a sales pitch I do not care to listen to. Im generally rude, or at best cold, but if youve had these calls, youve probably noticed how hard it is to get a word in edgewise to express your lack of interest. I absolutely refuse to lay a guilt trip on myself for treating charitable requests in the same manner as sales promotions. I keep threatening to simply hang up. Its no wonder so many people have opted for unpublished numbers. But theres no way to have made your address to the purveyors unavailable of junk mail. GRANGER. I guess each of us has a number of little things that seem to get us down. Ive merely scratched the surface of my list. I have to save some of them for November when I announce the annual Bartmess Barb awards. Then there are those that would get me in a pile of trouble with others if I revealed them.
