Show 5 WEST VALLEY VHW Concerts On Tap 5f 1983 Thursday, May Silver Anniversary Eyed By Symphony GRANITE PARK. A performance by the Granite Youth Symphony Orchestra in commemoration of its 25th anniversary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) in the Taylorsville high auditorium. Serving as guest conductors will be Marvin Strong and Ormon Weight, former Granite District music supervisors, who are to be given recognition for their service to music education. Included on the program of music will be Sibelius Finlandia, the March Slave by Tchaikovsky and Cossi Fan Tutte Overture by Mozart. Also to be performed will be Vi In F and the fourth movement of Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky. An appeal is being made to locate former Granite Youth Symphony members who are being especially invited to attend the concert. They will receive recognition for their contribution to one of the nations most successful youth symphony programs. The Granite Youth Symphony Orchestra, sponsored by Granite School District, was organized in 1957, with 96 talented students from eight junior and four senior highs. Interest in symphonic music dictated organization of a Junior Youth Symphony in 1959, providing an opportunity for younger students to perform separately from high school students. The younger group draws membership from 14 junior highs in the district, presenting concerts in the Salt Lake area during the regular school year. The new president is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Valier Smith. A football player, he is this years junior class president. The first vice president is the son of Gayle and Jea Christiansen, was student body president at Brock-banjunior high and is on the football and basketball teams. The Jones youth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Jones, is junior class vice president and plays varsity basketball. Elected secretary was Lani Aposhian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Aposhian and a junior class officer.
