Show Beat Tooele Twice Today - Lancers In Playoff For State GRANGER. A playoff game at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) will determine whether Granger makes the state tournament field or not. The Lancers handed Cyprus a 13-- 3 setback Friday, but Olympus captured the Region Three title with a comeback victory over Granite. Granger will play either Woods Cross, Viewmont or Highland on the Lancer diamond today. The winner is in the eight-teatourney field. The Lancers broke open a tight game in the fifth inning against the Pirates, who earlier broke into the win column with a pair of victories over Skyline. Granger took a 0 lead in the first on a Brian Joy triple after base blows by Chuck Embley and Darren Woodard. It stayed that way until the fifth when Pirate starter Wayne Jones tired. In the fourth, Greg Wilder and Mitch Larsen stroked base hits and 2-- Woodard had another single. Granger added another four in the sixth, Joy and Jeff Willardson being credited with doubles and Woodward and Larsen with singles. In the seventh, there were three more runs as Woodard completed a 4x5 day with a double. Cyprus avoided the shutout in the seventh with three runs. The lone hit was by Grant Huish. Woodard went the distance on the mound, yielding only four hits, striking out five and walking four. Automotive Tryouts Scheduled At Cyprus MAGNA. Wilson, who played college ball at Utah State and SUSC, coached the Bears for two years, compiling a 8 record and also coached the schools volleyball team to the state finals. He turned around a Bear River program that had a record of 5 in the five years before he took over. Wilson was an assistant coach for one year at Bear River and one year at Box Elder. He completed his college eligibility in 1979 at SUSC, leading the team to a record. He finished fourth e on the schools scoring list, was and for two years and was a Small Colselection in his lege senior year. He transferred to SUSC from Utah State after his sophomore season and redshirt year, forced by an injury. He had a brilliant high school career in California in which he set a single-gam- e scoring record of 53 in a nationally-televise- d high school game. He was recruited by a host of major colleges from the PAC 10 and WAC, as well as UNLV and Oral Roberts. Wilson stands Educationally, he has a masters degree in education from Utah State. He is married and the father of three sons. Cyprus principal Keith Hess said he is delighted with Wilsons selection and said the field of applicants was outstanding. Judge won only two events in the double dual - the boys medley relay team and the girls mile relay. The girls ran unopposed. The boys relay team won with a time of 4:01.45. Mike Rose, Lee Clapp, Tom Narr and Paul Kam-nika- r teamed for the victory. Two individuals did have fairly good days for Judge. Mike Roney finished second in the shot put, discus and javelin. Ann Ehresmann also had three seconds, finishing in the runner-u- p position in the 100 high hurdles, shot put and high jump. Also placing second were Wendy Bevins, run; Fran Crofts, 111-3- Run-scorin- 10-h- it 8-- 2 and Baker each had two hits to support losing pitcher Marty Biljanic, who struck out 11 Cubs in a solid effort. Foote earned the win. Judge Tooele 1 Offensive explosions in the early innings and four-hi- t pitching from Dan Auer and Baker gave the Bulldogs a sweep at Tooele. Baker hurled a four-hshutout in the opener, while Auer overcame his own wildness to scatter four hits in the nightcap. Baker struck out seven and walked just two in his victory. Judge wasted no time posting Baker to an early lead. Barbiero knocked the first pitch of the game out of the park. A single by Shawn Rodman, six walks and an error made it 0 before Baker even took the mound. A Rodman single drove in an insurance run in the fifth.
