Manti High School is a . g great place to form friendships. There are lots of kids with all kinds of interests that are very' friendly, but still, Im sure there are kids to whom school is a very scary experience because of friend issues. Going to school when you dont have any friends would be a true horror, that we dont want any student to face. If you or someone you know is in that place, let us or our counselors know because we can help. As principal. Id hope we would have a school where kids treat each other as theyd like to be treated (not tricked) and that each of you lake time to be a better friend to others. They arent ghosts, monsters, haunted houses, spiders, or witches. Studies always show that the scariest thing for kids of any age is the thought of having problems with friends, not First quarter is history! I hope that by now everyone has gotten into the groove of things and enjoy ed their school year so far. If you havent done what youd like this quarter, now is the time i to start. If you ever wonder what activities are going on during the week, just take a look at Manti Highs very own marquee. This is a grueling task, but we do it just so you can crank your neck up. look at the upcoming events, and get involved! I would like to congratulate the Volleyball, Football. r Tennis, and Cross Country teams. You guys put forth a lot of time and effort to become the best. All of your hard work has paid off. I.all of the sports teams do this well for the rest of the year, there is no end to what we can achieve. It takes a whole school and community to make all of the sports successful and the fans have been great this year. A word to the class of 99-t- hc coolest class, might I say. Madsen First quarter w ill end on October 30th, and report cards should be available by Monday November 9th. Parents, please review your students progress and call the high school if you have any questions. Senior students must mail their Coca Cola 1 Scholarship applications by October 31st. The first round of the ACT testing is completed and the next date is December 2th at Snow College. Applications for the Sterling Scholars will be accepted starting October 27th. Senior students who are interested need to stop by the Counseling Center for more information. I have been told there will be 14 categories this year, they have added Computer Technology. That deadline is October 29th. Student applications will be reviewed and the school winner will be entered into the state competition. The Skills Building class, taught by Kay Jensen, will be held in the portable, on Wednesdays from 4 :00 to 7 :00 P.M. Students can earn .5 credit in this program. We have also received a fax that offers students, who have a GPA of 3.8 or above, a free season pass to Elk Mead- ows Ski Resort in Beaer. Their representative should be at our school on November 11th. For students who have taken the ACT or the SAT test. Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation has a scholarship offer that requires test results and a $3.00 processing fee. Students who have read or will read an Ayn Rand book, have an opportunity to enter an essay contest. First prize is $10,000. Also we have received some information on international exchange programs. A reminder on the Post 1 School Orientation that will ligh be held at Snow College for senior students, representatives from colleges throughout the state will be there.
