Plain and simply I didn't know what on earth this could mean. With a look of disappointment this child began to cry, sauly the boy whispered Please remember, try! Remember what?, I asked confused. Turning now to go, the child took me by the hand No. there's something you must know. He led me to a dark and eerie part of town, and then he showed me something so smooth, so orange, and so round. A pumpkin, I said bluntly Trick-or-trea- t? yet he caught me by surprise, he took out a can ing knife and can ed the pumpkin eyes. "A jack'o'lantem!", he said, yet such a silly name that's when he lifted the top and filled this thing with flame. Now look into his eyes and please listen close to me. tonight I'm going to tell you of a thing called I lallowccn. A long, long time ago, the child soon began On October 3 1 st, a holiday of man. A crisp moon filled the sky, the smell of Autumn stirred. Voices of young children was all that could be heard. Yet children were not found, but something in their place. A ghost, goblin, or witch covering their face. From door to door they ran asking trick'or'treat, a person from the home would give them something sweet. Although its all the costumes after light grows dim, the true spirit of this holiday is found somewhere within. I sat there and I pondered on what this child said, then suddenly old memories seemed to fill my head. It seems that I remember along, longtime ago, of the children's laughter, of goblins, ghouls, and ghosts. But how was this forgotten? I asked with pure concern. He just looked at me and frowned, This is what you'll learn. The world just grew up, he said with a gloomy sigh. The children have forgotten, thats why I'm here tonight. You see I am the ghost, the ghost of Hallows Eve. and all I'm looking for, is a soul who will believe. At this he was disappearing, vanishing to air. Within a matter of seconds, this child was no longer there. And then I heard his voice, so quiet yet so clear. Giving me a message, for children everywhere. Tell the children my story, tell them what youve seen. Please my child be on your way, for tonight is Halloween. |
