This fall, 489 students from Davis County enrolled at USU, an increase of 3 percent over last year. Autumn enrollment at Utah State reached 9,939 students, a total that USU was not expected to reach e for another decade. The universitys enrollment increased by 578 students, exceeding the e enrollment increases of any other college or university in the Utah System of Higher Education,. Dr. Cazier said. The increase at USU is the largest in 15 years and the second largest ever. Davis County contributes more students to the USU student body than any other county except Cache, where the school is located, neighboring Box Elder and populous Salt Lake County. This year there are more sophomores from Davis at USU than ever 111 and more juniors 73. The number of graduate students rose from 19 to 24. all-tim- full-tim- full-tim- This years enrollment at Utah State was totally due to increased numbers of Utah students. Significantly large increases were posted by 24 Utah counties. The pressures on the university are exacerbated by the fact that USU has had three years of budget cuts, Dr. Cazier noted. We have had cuts totalling more than 8 percent during this period., The 6V2 percent cut this year, coupled with burgeoning enrollment, has stretched the universitys available g resources to the point. In a number of departments, students have had to be turned away because of lack of space, he added.
