The Lancers amassed 170 points on the strength of first place finishes by Rob Zamora (112), Mike Cabrey (132), Dwaine Mortenson (155), Jeff Davies (185) and James Suitt (UNL). Also placing for Layton were Donnie Zamora (98), Mike Petroff (105), George Torres (119), Kyle Stone (138), Steve Kittrell (145) and Steve Rensch j 1. Wes Mullins (C), 2. Mike 105 Petroff (L), 3. Ron Elwood and played a lot Staff Writer Seventeen year old Steve Ulibarri is a quiet, easy going honor student at Clearfield High School, and he i is also the Region-- 1 wrestling champion in the 98 pound division. He captured first place last week by pinning Dave Hodson of Bonneville, Jay Mpckley of Weber and Shawn Olsen of Sky View. With those three victories, Steve pushed his Win-lorecord to 23-- 2 foKhe season. His only losses this year were to a wrestler from Granger (7-and to a man from Jordan Steve was born on January 3, 1964 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He moved with hislfamily to Utah, when he was five years old. He has a sister, Julie, who is sixteen years old and a sophomore at C.H.S. Julie is active in gymnastics, volleyball, and tracki Steves little brother, Charley is two years old, and cant wait to grow up to Rasso like Steve. v Charley holds daily practice at' homfe on his stuffed animals. Steve was first in the district in the 92 pound division. In his sophomore year at Clearfield High, he finished second in Region-- 1 and fifth in state. Smart Grappler Steve is an intelligent wrestler, and lightning-quick- . He has himself fine-tunin the art of wrestling, and wins a lot of matches in the first round. He has fourteen pins this season. Mrs. Willi Ulibarri is proud of her champion son. He never gives me any problems, she beamed. He is very mellow and never gets mad. He doesnt even get nervous on the night before he fights, she said. He is my pride and joy. ' They think a lot of Steve in Falcon-lanHe was nominated last year for president of his junior class. He lost in the election but the vote was very close. Steve is riding the crest of a 3.94 grade ed ' (3-9- ). division. Ulibarri is a strong favorite to win the state title.
