Up until last year the countys typewriters had been serviced by the IBM people, but Cooper Office Equipment had offered a much lower rate for the same service and the county and switched last year. Davis County Auditor LuDene Gibbons said the difference in cost was quite a bit and departments with a large number of typewriters may have trouble making the change at this time. She said the money budgeted was based on the lower rate. She said IBM charges around $107 per typewriter for the service while Cooper Office Equipment charges around $57. ; Assistant county clerk Nancy Burningham told the commissioners that the company now contracted with has told several of the employees that their nearly new typewriters needed to be replaced when , they came to service them. j. She also said that her typewriter1 had never been completely repaired even after several visits from a repairman and one trip to the repair shop. :The commissioners agreed to conduct a survey of .the employees and problems theyve encountered over the last year with the service before making a decision. The contract will be up for renewal on . "March 1 of this year. Z The commissioners also approved a contract on the "gale of the bleachers at the Lagoon Race track to lease on the Lagoon. The county has a ten-yefairgrounds at Lagoon and owns the improvements at the facility. "t The contract states that Lagoon will take over the maintenance and care of the bleachers which they are purchasing for $6,000. L' Approval was given to the sheriffs department for Ithe purchase of a microfilm system to handle the departments records. The original proposal budgeted for this year was for $8,400. Sheriff Brant Johnson told the commissioners that they had studied the systems available and felt the original proposal would not fit the department needs. -'- .He told them the system he was requesting would cost around $11,000 which is about $3,000 over what had been budgeted. He asked them to approve a $6,000 expenditure which would allow the purchase of some parts of the system this year and they would f budget for the remaining portion next year. The council passed the measure. The sheriffs department also received approval on the purchase of a typewriter for the ambulance service which was recently combined with the department, Originally the request had been denied because of the availability of a typewriter currently in use by the ambulance center. Johnson told the commissioners that he has since learned the tvuewriter belonged to ' . BTl TONGS Reg.
