Time Has when all a ski fan asked for was - s inches of powder snow and a short wait at the lift. But not so any more. This season on the slopes of Aspens Ajax Mountain, as at other ski resorts East and West, imagination is running wilder than a novice on glare ice. Shown here are some of the wacky ideas concocted by uninhibited skiers to make the sport more fun for spectators a9 well as participants. You can entertain on the chair yourself lift with banjo or bongo drums, try goon skis that can turn you into a snow acrobat quicker than you can say "gelandesprung," or test your skill and balance on one ski alone. For mothers with children too young to solo, theres even a papoose style back carrier but thats recommended for expert skiers and gentle slopes only. Skijoring behind a motorcycle or horse, baseball games on skis, or obstacle courses with conventional slalom "gates replaced by tires, tent tunnels, and r wickets are other lively ideas. Or perhaps youd rather prudently shout an encouraging word and watch the fun from the comfort of your lounge chair at the base station.
