Eastern Utah Rifle YEAR-ROUN- D Baseball Prospects Galore at Carbon Senior High year-rou- Baseball talent at the Carbon senior high school is plentiful this year and of the 38 boys who turned out for practice during the first sessions, 25 have been retained on the squad, it has been reported by Chris Axelgard, coach. Some of the positions, however, Axelgard staied, lack reserve strength. The principal position that had only one bidder is the catcher spot and Darryl Crawford has the inside track on this. A large number of boys have turned out for the pitching chores but the coach stated due to the adverse weather he hasnt had an opportunity to single out any one man who will be called upon to carry the load. Trying out for the spot are Jerry Culwell, Ve-lPiccioni, the only southpaw, Bill Perry, Fred and Kent Halverson and Harold Cunningham. The first plate spot is a hot race between Calmer Griffith, Jerry Crawford and Jerry Olsen. Gean Plaga seems to have the second bag pretty well to himself but Darrell Greener and Don Jones are giving him a race for it. Jimmy Searcelli and Burl Hoopes are the prospects for the short stop positions and Louis Tone and Henry Washington have their eye on the third sack. Outfield prospects are George DAmbrosio, Dave Faddis, Morris Nelson, Junie Lindsay, Bobbie Davis, Ferron Pappas and Mike Markakis. Markakis and Griffith may work onto the mound before the season is very well advanced, Axelgard stated. As yet no games have been lined up but Axelgard says he thinks Carbon will play in the Nebo division the same as last year with teams including Brigham Young high at Provo, Nephi.
