The Carbon county commissioners last Wednesday night in a special session appointed Warren Peacock, Republican, to the post of sheriff vacated by Sheriff Dudler who was first appointed to the post by a Democratic commission and subsequently was reelected to the position on the Democratic ticket. Sheriff Dudler has been appointed to the post of highway patrol superintendent by Governor J. Bracken Lee. According to Mr. Coli, neither he nor the Democratic Central committee were consulted on the resignation of Sheriff Dudler or the appointment of a successor. He stated that some time ago the commissioners, E. B. Miller, J. Orville Peterson and Jesse Bryan, met with the Democratic Central committee and informed that body that in the event of any appointments to county positions Four members of the hospital board met Monday evening and discussed the recent veto actions of Governor J. Bracken Lee which cut out state money to aid counties and munciipali-tie- s for the construction of hospital facilities. The crux of the entire situation, according to a spokesman, is that the present hospital, which recently went conunder joint trol with the anticipation of state and federal matching monies for enlargement and improvement, is that the hospital will probably be operated as in the past with only minor repairs undertaken that can be afforded by the county. The board also announced that a meeting will be called for a date some time before April 6 to name a new staff at the hospital. Present at the meeting were Commissioners J. O. Peterson and Jesse Bryan, Price City Mayor A. D. Keller, City Councilman Murray Mathis and County Clerk B. H. Young, temporary secretary to the board. During this time there have been rumors and speculations flying around Carbon and Emery counties, many of which have come to the association members, including comments both in favor of and against this move, Mr. Olson said. Some people and concerns have made harsh accusations against the association for this move. But, said Mr. Olson, "we feel sure that the adverse criticisms have been fostered by misunderstandings rather than prejudices. The group, Talent Show of Kiwanis Club Wednesday Night therefore, wished to clarify its stand to the milk consuming public in this area so that the people may become informed as to the true motives behind this move of the local dairy association members to align themselves with what has been called outside industry. Since the advent of the cartoning of milk, asserts the association, the entire wholesale market in both Carbon and Emery counties has been gradually taken over and monopolized by producers and processors with milk which has been produced outside of these two counties. This situation, they claim, has crowded out the locally produced milk until the only market left for the producer here was that furnished by the retail routes. This retail market alone has many times proved unsatisfactory to the producers in this area. They, therefore, felt justified in trying to secure some of this wholesale trade, which is really the cream of the business, as they see it. In trying to find some means of breaking into this wholesale market, which, says President Olson, really should belong to local (Continued on Page Three) Already 80 farmers of Carbon have indicated they will participate in the 1949 AgriculAdvance ticket sales for the tural Conservation program, acannual Kiwanis club talent third cording to Miss Lucille Jensen, show at the Price city auditorium secretary of the Carbon county indicate a capacity house next Six School agricultural conservation commitWednesday evening, March 30, tee.
