Glover, chairman of the board and Phyllis K. Owen, director are scheduled to report at the Utah "State of the Arts" hearing at the state capitol, Nov. The special hearing has been organized by the Utah State Division of Fine Arts in order to assess the current development of the arts in the state. The division of fine arts functions as a state agency offering financial assistance and guidance to arts organizations and activities which serve to enrich and sustain a better quality of life for the citizenry of Utah. Representatives from over 80 Mayor's family back from exciting vacation by FI Munsea t A . Mayor and Mr. Max Mason and daughter Jacque have returned from an exciting vacation in England. They arrived in London and traveled on to Leeds where they met their son Elder Kenneth Kendrick who had been honorably released after fulfilling an LDS mission. Elder Kendrick accompanied them to Middles borough where they visited friends he had met while serving in the mission field. They visited many, many points of historic interest including a visit to Durham, attended sessions in the Temple located near London, saw the "Big Ben", the Piccadilly Circus, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, the Parliment buildings, etc. In Scotland they visited in Glasgow, in Edinbaugh and also visited The Castle containing' the crowned jewels of Scotland. They report having had a most marvelous time. Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Rytting attended a wedding reception honoring Mr. Rytting's niece. Miss Carole Rytting, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Rytting of Layton who became the bride of Jeffrey Lamar Schofield, son of Mr . and Mrs. Jex Lamar Schofield of Clearfield in rites performed in the Salt Lake Temple Friday morning. The reception was held at the Layton LDS stake center. Mr. and Mrs. Rytting went on to Salt Lake City where they spent the weekend visiting their son and daugher-in-la- w Dr. and Mrs. Lorry Rytting and family. Dr. Rytting and his wife and family presented the program in the Canyon Rim want chapel Sunday. Following the meeting Mr. and Mrs. Rytting returned home. Vaeattenfatg Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Garfield and Mr. and Mrs. John Garfield have been spending a few days vacationing in Elko. The occasion was Mr. and Mrss J.R. Garfields wedding anniver- sary. f Sir. and Mrs. rmuraed Sunday spending several day! in Las Vegas where they attended American Prosthodonlc society meetings at the MGM Grand View hotel. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Gilbert Enroute home they visited Dr. and Mrs. John Voyles in Spring-dale. ed as part of homecoming week at the school. George C. Hatch, chairman of the Board of Regents, delivered the Charge to the President, and together with Dr. T.H. Bell, Commissioner of the Utah System of Higher Education, performed the Investiture of the President. President Glen L. Taggert, President of USU gave the inaugural address with President Kerr presenting die inaugural response. Following the ceremonies a reception was held on the central campus quad. Dr. Kerr has acted as president since June of this year. He is married to the former Janeil Raybould and they are parents of five children. Dr. Kerr is a former resident of Tremonton and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton G.M. John and Melanie Dean Shumway of Salt Lake City are happy over the arrival of a baby boy born in the LDS Hospital Nov. 11. They have two small daughters Stephanie and Elizabeth at home. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shumway of Tremonton and Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Dean of Kaysville. Jack Shumway underwent surgery in the Holy Cross hospital in Salt Lake City the forepart of this week. His wife is staying and daughwith her ter Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Mon-so- n in Salt Lake City to be near her husband while he is hospitalized. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Frank entertained at a family dinner party at their home Saturday honoring their daughter Jayne, a student at USU in Logan. Kerr, Mrs. Isabel Walton, Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Kerr, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Bunnell accompanied by Douglas Cannon of Brigham City were among those who attended the formal inau- guration ceremonies for Dr. Rolfe Kerr, who was named the Uth president of Dixie college in St. George Nov. William 12. The inauguration was featur Kerr. Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Smith and family of Shelly, Idaho spent the weekend visiting Mrs. Smith's mother Mrs. Nellie Barnard and other relatives in this area. Mrs. Lee Fuhriman has returned after spending a week visiting her brother and sister-in-laMr. and Mrs. Wendell Harris and family in Eugene, Ore. and with her and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dursteler in Seattle. w son-in-la- w Slmada Club The Simada club met with Mrs. Connie Rasmussen as hostess Tuesday evening. Marilyn Johnson took charge and read a letter from the Salt Lake chapter telling of activities jn the other chapters. Mrs. Mildred Harris gave a lesson The Old South the people and the culture". A large group from the Tremonton and Garland stakes ai -- w Sandridge Junior High school in Roy Saturday. Each stake presented a demonstration. A lunch was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. V.D. Bowcutt have returned home after spending a few days visiting Mrs. Bowcutts brother and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Peterson in Redlands, Calif. They were accompanied by Mrs. Bowcutts parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Peterson of Garland who remained in Redlands and will accompany Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Peterson to Memphis, Tenn., to visit the two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Peterson, Jeff and Jay who are serving with the US Marines. sister-in-la- w Spending the past several days visiting Mrs. June Garfield was her mother Mrs. Sylvia Cordon and her sister Mrs. La Von Baddley of Ogden. Mrs: Garfield had the misfortune of falling recently and breaking her arm. . In Ogden Mr. and Mrs. Wllford Rogers spent Saturday in Ogden visiting Mr. Rogers sister Mrs. Annie Compton of Morgan who is receiving medical care in the McKay hospital. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Alice Cummings) Putnam in Ogden. Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. George White of Providence visited Mr. and Mrs. George Smith and family. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Puzey spent Wednesday visiting Mrs. T.L. Cochran who is receiving medical care in the Logan hospital. - Last Monday family home evening was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. AJf. Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Garland Puzey visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Puzey and family in Ogden and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Puzey and family in Roy. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. George Smith and sons Gary and Dee were dinner guests of Dr. and Mrs. Tom Johnson and family in Logan. The occasion wq little Jan Johnsons birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Arch Showell spent the weekend visiting relatives in Boise. Friday afternoon Show and Tell day was held at the Senior Center with a display of arts, crafts, handiwork and all the nice things the members had accomplished during the year. Following luncheon which was served to 54 persons films were shown by Dean Bradshaw, newly elected Utah State School Board member of Tooele. The films were The Hole in the Rock Expendltion, "Alcoholism and "The Use of the Metric System." Spending Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Napoli and family were Mr. and Mrs. Kevir (Denise) John of Logan. Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson of Thatcher were honored at a dinner party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Anderson, the occasion being Mrs. Roy Andersons birthday anniversary. w Wayne Young of Willard, Mr. And Mrs. Alma Anderson in Holliday to honor Mrs. Roy Anderson on her birthday anniversary. Harper to hoar report in arts organizations have requested time to appear at the will talk A homecoming for Elder Charles L. Jeppesen Jr. will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Harper Ward chapel. Elder Jeppesen recently returned from the Australia Sidney mission for the LDS church. While serving in Australia he was a district leader and was organist in the various cities he labored. Cities included Sidney, Auk-lanGrafton, Baulken Hills and Southerland. The elder is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Jeppesen Sr. of . ' Harper. d, 1 7th ward Elder Steven DeLoy Stewart has recently returned for two years labor in the California San Diego mission for the LDS church. He will report his mission Sunday, Nov. 21, at ( p.m. in the Brigham City 17th ward. All friends and relatives are invited. He served as district and zone leader and labored throughout San Diego and Imperial Valley. He plans to continue his education in the near future. Elder Day enters the Language 4 Training mission on Dec. 2. Elder Day is a graduate of Box Elder High school and LDS Seminary where he was active in Madrigals and lettered in track. He will report his mission to the members of the 14th ward and friends during the sacrament meeting on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. in the North Stake center, 620 North Third East. He plans on working for a while and then continuing his education next fall.
