Show After 1 1 County qflont says t i v. years in Brigham , Thanksgiving time, but we dont know. If we prune now and have some weather in December, our trees could be damaged more if they have been pruned than if they have not. My recommendation is to wait until February to do most of your pruning. Your evergreen shrubs can be pruned any time they need it. by Harold G. Lindsay USU Extension Agent sub-zer- o . Should I be watering my fruit trees? When should I prune my trees? These are two questions many people are concerned about this time of year. An article in one of the daily papers a week or so ago said people should be watering their fruit trees. I think that statement should be qualified to say after Thanksgiving. It is true we have had a very dry fall. This is good for fruit trees. Water should be kept off from fruit trees after the first of October so they will go dormant. If the sap remains up in the trunk of the tree and the leaves remain green, the tree is subject to frost damage should a heavy freeze occur. This is the reason I dont recommend watering trees before helping with Community Action Program projects. Seen as Family St. Henrys parish families have become his family through the years as he has watched children grow from their first communion days to college. In fact, he notes that except for a period from the age of four to entering the US Navy at 18, he has never made his home in one community for such a long time. It is with mixed feelings that he leaves Brigham City, for he likes the community very much. But he also sees his new mission in California as a fine challenge and knows that he will be meeting a special need in his new parish. Father Taheny grew up in San Francisco and was educated in Los Gatos and Spokane, serving two years in a San Jose parish and another two years in Sacramento before coming to Brigham City. He serves with the California Province of the Society of Jesus, which includes Utah in its boundaries. Church women planning the open house add that this farewell event honoring Father Taheny is not just for parish members, but for the many friends that he has made in his years of service in this community. now. Leaves Have Fallen Most of the leaves have fallen, the trees are nearly dormant and ready for winter. If we dont get some good storms, I would suggest you water your younger fruit trees after Thanksgiving. Young evergreen trees and shrubs should be kept wet during the fall and winter months. Those shrubs in planters may need to be watered even if it storms. Ive had inquiries about when to prune trees. If we knew that we would have a mild winter, I would say you could prune any Will Hold Meetings We will be holding ' federally-fundef-IIM$Wft- Stone is named to ADPA i James M. At least its the intent of a new program okayed by the Box Elder County commission Tuesday, to paint a silver lining on what for some may be a dark cloud. Keith J. Nelson, administrator for the firogrtip ,Hpbitki ' Bear River district (Box Elder, Cacne and' Rich counties) broached the subject. He said Uncle Sam wants to give more emphasis to placing persons 45 years old and older in jobs. They seem to have a more difficult time than younger folks. He proposed assigning a member of his staff to focus special attention on those at and beyond this age plateau. It is a problem nationally. We dont know if it is locally but it should be evaluated, he told the county officials. Commissioner Ted Burt asked bluntly if 3 8, 1 976 , Peach Day, 1965, with characteristic humor.
